Except for the fact that Yao would clog the lane, thus rendering his offensive strengths useless. Battier can hit a 3, while AK thinks he can. Obvioulsy AK is a better player than battier, but not on this team (IMHO)
If you have a chance to get someone like AK-47, you got to jump at it!! This guy flat out dominates when it comes to defense. I mean can you imagine him and Yao blocking the hell out of anything that come to the basket??
You're focusing only on the positives. What about the negatives? AK 47 is mentally weak and a headcase. Battier, in comparison will take a cut to hisk his head during a game, run out and get stitched up and come back immediately. Battier is the kind of glue guy that wins championships. We already have enough talent on this team.
I wish we could do this . Successful Trade Scenario Congratulations on a successful trade. Due to Houston and Utah being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Utah had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It's the safe conservative side (Battier) vs. the risky unknown move (AK-47). We all know what Battier works for the Rockets, we know what he will give us, and we know he'll be a professional and won't whine with assignments. AK-47 on the other hand, could give us so much more than Battier, he is a better player, but at the same time he could turn out to be a disaster. He could whine and be a detriment to the chemistry of the team. I think the team can handle him if he was destructive but not at the expense of losing Battier.
our defense is NOT the problem for god sakes. ak47 is not even that good of a 1-on-1 defender. and he can't shoot jumpers, which we will need w/ tmac and yao.
Do we even have to entertain this IDEA? AK-Fourty Nothing! Not worth the gajillion dollars he is getting this year! Now Shawn Marion...I can entertain those talks!
I would really, really dislike AK on this team. Battier is the PERFECT role player on this team. Why can't you people see that chemistry is more important than star power?
I agree. Battier mayba can't block and rebound the ball like Kirilenko can, but he is pretty good shoter when he gets that open position and I wouldn't change him for AK
Thats a horrible thing for Deron Williams to say. I wouldn't want teammates that talk behind my back either...But this does show one thing. AK-47 has grown tired of this team, and is not enjoying playing basketball with them. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/48140/20070922/deron_williams_rips_kirilenkos_work_ethic/
That post by Seven settles everything. For those of you who insist that Kirilenko is better than Battier, get over it. AK47 is officially a stat-w**** and has his head up where the sun don't shine. Pretty much visible to people who watch his games too. He thinks he can shoot. I say Rafer Alston shoots better than him. That's how bad he is. Guys like Kirilenko make the fans drool with his highlights and numbers, but they kill coaches and potentially teams with their attitude. Guys like Battier do the little things that the average fan misses, but all of which accumulate and end up being the difference makers at the end of a tight game.
I still think it might not all be his fault. On one rare occasion I was listening to Rome and he said one thing that struck me: We aren't going through what AK-47 is going through. We aren't in the same environments and we have different people surrounding us. As much as we want to dismiss the idea that we are all fair people, once we get a bad impression on somebody its almost impossible to clear that impression in our minds...much like Deron with AK.
I am not sure Les Alexander and Daryl Morey want to committ $63 million to a guy with a significant history of both physical and mental issues. The talent is definitely enticing, but not $63 million enticing when it's your money.
AK-47 was complaining about not being in the Utah offense.. I don't think there is enough balls to go around if indeed we do get him...
