The Heat have signed restricted free agent Charlie Bell to a 5 year 18.5 million dollar offer. Lets see if Milwaukee matches this offer, they should at least. Thats 3.5 million dollars a year for a starting caliber PG. This most likely ends any trade hopes with the Heat also. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/nba/09/17/bell.heat.ap/index.html MIAMI (AP) -- Restricted free agent shooting guard Charlie Bell signed a $18.5 million, five-year offer sheet with the Miami Heat on Monday, and now will wait to see if the Milwaukee Bucks choose to match that deal. The 6-foot-3 Bell has made it clear in recent days that he wants to play for the Heat, who were foiled in a bid earlier this offseason to woo guard Mo Williams away from the Bucks. Bell averaged a career-high 13.5 points in a breakout season last year for Milwaukee, making 64 starts. "It's been a very long and drawn out process this summer," said Bell's agent, Mark Bartelstein. "And Charlie is at the point where he's kind of broken his emotional ties to the Bucks." The Bucks have seven days to match Miami's offer. "I hope they don't match it," Bell said Monday afternoon in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "The Bucks said they didn't have this kind of money and didn't want to give me a long-term deal, so I would hope they stick to what they said and let me go. ... I'm really thankful Miami stepped up." Bell signed with Milwaukee two seasons ago after averaging a league-best 27 points for Breogan of the Spanish League. He went undrafted after helping Michigan State win the 2000 national championship, played briefly with Phoenix and Dallas before spending three seasons playing in Italy. He also had an offer from a Greek team, but South Florida is where he wants to be, Bartelstein said. "He feels very strongly about it and his mind is made up," Bartelstein said. Williams was Miami's top point-guard pursuit this summer, but could only offer him a deal worth about $31 million. Milwaukee easily topped that to retain Williams, giving him a six-year pact worth $51.5 million. Bell's status, meanwhile, remained in limbo. "I had a really bad summer because of how all of this went down with Milwaukee, so I don't want to be there," Bell said. "I don't think I could give my all to the Bucks anymore, so I hope they respect that." And with training camp starting in two weeks, Bell hopes his wait is now over. "The last thing Charlie or I want to do is be disrespectful about this," Bartelstein said. "But he signed the offer sheet with Miami, not with Milwaukee, and there's a reason for that."
I thought the Bucks offfered him around 3.5 mil neighborhood per, probably less than 5 years. I doubt the Bucks would match it.
Rumor was the Bucks offered him 3 years and 9 million. Not sure if they will match this, but if they do, he shouldnt be a baby about it. The restricted FA rules are in place and all players and teams know what they are and how teams can use them to their advantage. If the Bucks decide to pony up, be happy you get paid 3.5 million a year to play in the NBA. If he truly wanted to decide his own fate, sign a small one year deal and walk free next summer like it looks like sideshow Bob will do in Cleveland.
i know he doesn't appear to be a big name or star but absolutely love the way Charlie Bell plays, would love to have him on the rockets ahead of most of our PG options anyhoo this is clearly about playing time not so much money, nevertheless the way the bucks are prone to injury you would have thought he would be a good back up behind their starting back court
Charlie Bell >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rafer Alston This is pertinent news because if the Bucks match we can still pawn off Alston to the Heat .
Bell'll beg Bucks not to match. Bucks will match. Bell will be blue. Heat's cold summer will continue.
Bell is just as good as Mo Williams IMO and since Bucks wasted all that money on Mo, they have nothing left to spend on Bell. I don't think Bucks are desperate enough to pay that much money for a shoot first backup PG with the squad that they have.
bad knees, one season fluke, 3 pt percentage and rookie may not do you watch both ends or maybe even anything other than the player with the ball.......
what has bell proven? he is a back up, shoot first point guard on a losing team. he had the green light when redd, mo williams, bogut, and villanueva were all injured....whos to say hes not a one season fluke either fyi- fluke means a great year..and his year was barely good any member on this board would take francis or brooks over bell. do you have a small penis or is your vagina too big....
wow personal insults.... so now instead of all 4 you are down to Francis and Brooks being better than Bell shoot first point guard on a losing team... sounds like francis and james to me watched him play for a couple of years and he would be a nice addition to our bench, bell was playing well in spot minutes when stuck behind ford and mo williams brooks could be a great addition in the future, and will certainly only get better but right now is he better NBA player and make better contributions than Bell??? have you watched the defensive end..... Bell works his butt off, something the 3 vet pg we have, have never done
Sorry thought yours was personal. Well I think Francis was "injured" in New York just to get out of that situation altogether. He would sit out of games because he didnt fit in their system and the knicks not wanting to admit they made a mistake trading for him said he was injured. It helped both sides with francis saving face from not getting PT. I really think all that ability is still there. It was just a bad situation which is really similar to James since theWolves wanted to throw Foye into the fire. James didnt really have a place either. They still have serious game IMO. There is just something about Brooks that screams great floor general, which is really rare in this league. I just dont think Bell's abilities are anything special. He's like a Shandon Anderson. Enough talent for you to not think hes a waste, but not enough to really make a difference.
Looks like Miami is out of luck - unless some kind of trade can be worked out. http://www.miamiherald.com/breaking_sports/story/244616.html Report: Heat won't get Bucks' Bell BY MICHAEL WALLACE mwallace@MiamiHerald.com The Miami Heat has missed out again in its quest to land a member of the Milwaukee Bucks backcourt. Milwaukee has matched the Heat's offer sheet for restricted free agent Charlie Bell, according to a member of the Bucks' front office. Bell, a six-foot-three combination guard, had signed a five-year, $18.5 million offer sheet with the Heat on Monday and said this week he did not wish to return to Milwaukee because of strained negotiations with the team. Bell's agent, Mark Bartelstein, did not immediately return a message seeking comment. The Bucks had until Monday to match the Heat's offer to retain Bell, who averaged 13.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 82 games last season. The Bucks' decision to bring back Bell comes nearly two months after the team resigned free agent point guard Mo Williams to a six-year, $52 million contract, which trumped the five-year, $31 million deal the Heat offered.
A very obvious decision IMO. Bell will just have to suck it up and collect his $18MM from the Bucks. Poor guy.
How many places are there? Start with that number and then add some imaginary places they'd go to first too.
