As rezdawg said, it is pretty awesome, definitely a must-play title for PS3 owners IMO. But yeah, the length may make it hard to justify buying the game at full price (similar to the original God of War). I ended up renting it (like I did both GoW games), and I ended up beating it in around 6-7 hours or so. I saw that some other people had problems with some bosses which I didn't have any issues with, so depending on your skill level, it might take longer (some needed 8-10 hours apparently).

I planned on taking the game back to Blockbuster today, although I did have some second thoughts (not that it stopped me). Even though I finished the game, I wanted to continue getting more "medals" for each level, which are used to unlock some extra content (think they're for unlocking combos, videos, great concept art, etc.). I think I spent another hour or two playing that game after I beat it, just getting some more medals. I also enjoyed watching (most) of the cutscenes again, partly due to the performances and partly because of the great music (think I watched the ending cutscene 5+ times). I'll probably end up buying it after a price drop for those reasons, especially if new content gets added via the PSN.

I will say that the game's strengths are exactly what I look for in a game, and its weaknesses aren't exactly things I care about all that much, so I suppose others may have different opinions.

That's just a rumor AFAIK, which I sort of alluded to in a later post.

And BTW, Kotaku isn't really a reliable online source...although they are right from time to time, unfortunately.

Other than the fact I had to exchange my system twice, its been a good system...Resistance is the best game evah...I love that game and a must have...I have NBA2K7, TWoods 07, a couple of games for the kids and Motostorm, which rocks...Plus, it plays all of my Blu-ray movies, so overal, I'm happy with the purchase, although I wish I would have waited as the price dropped $100...

No, the PS2 and PS3 don't really use the same online infrastructure AFAIK, so they wouldn't really be compatible. At least, I'm pretty sure they don't work together.

The PS3 has some games worth getting (mostly Resistance and Warhawk), but everything else so far is mediocore or you can get it on the 360 as well.

It still has some games like Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted coming out in the next few months. You can put Unreal Tournament 3 there as well (althought that'll be coming to the 360 in the 1st half of next year). Other than that, it's dry bones for the PS3 this year in terms of exclusives.

I'd suggest picking up a 360. Gears and Bioshock alone blow anything on the PS3 away. The multi-platform games such as Madden and others also run better on the 360 and have slight graphical advantages. Now you throw in Halo 3 and Mass Effect (again, both should be better than anything on PS3 thus far) this holiday season and add an extremely impressive online system with Xbox Live (maybe Home will be good on the PS3 as well), and the better versions of most multi-platform games, then I'd say you'd be crazy not to pick up a 360.

Forgot to mention this earlier, but it does seem like Heavenly Sword is the best example of a showcase title for the PS3 (similar to Gears of War last year) thanks to its impressive visuals (probably the best out there right now), intriguing characters and story, high production values, gameplay, etc. Games like Warhawk, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, MotorStorm, etc., don't quite do as well in those areas IMO.

I'd probably throw in the games I just mentioned above, along with a few others (MLB 07 The Show and VF5, by far the best next-gen games in their genres). After them (and maybe a game or two I'm forgetting), the (exclusive) games start to become mediocre.

Personal preference and all, but given what I've played and seen, I wouldn't come close to saying that Gears and BioShock blow Resistance and Heavenly Sword away. Could probably throw MotorStorm in as well, if you want to factor in the content they've added to the game (lack of content was the only real complaint for the game, but it seems like it was quickly addressed).

More or less agree with your other points though (Halo 3 and ME will be awesome, 360 has had the advantage in most multiplatform games, etc.).

    RC, a couple of notes:

    1. VF5 is going to the 360 (and very soon too), so I don't consider that an exclusive

    2. GT5 Prologue has not even been announced for release in North America. you know that GT4 Prologue never made it here, right? so I'd say it's certainly a possibility that GT5 Prologue won't either

A00man's post was very fair in all regards, IMO. I own all 3 consoles (360, PS3, Wii) so I have no bias one way or another

Resistance doesn't even come close to Bioshock.

I disagree...unless someone only plays like the first few hours of Resistance

but once you get to the 'alien' setting levels, it's a fantastic game and very underrated. incredible graphics (as long as you're playing in true HD), just as good as Bioshock's, and the action/weapons are all great

although I still give a slight edge to Bioshock overall as a game, only because of story though

True, but I usually like listing games that are exclusive right now to avoid the hassle of posting when a game might be coming to another other console (for example, a few big 360 exclusives this holiday season are either confirmed to be PS3 titles in early 2008, or strongly rumored). Of course, VF5 actually has a firm date and will be releasing soon, as you noted, so it probably should have been an exception to my "rule." Not really a big deal since it wasn't a big part of what I was trying to say (just happened to throw it in there at the last moment).

That could certainly be the case (especially with how badly some people have tried to accept the game in the US), but given the distribution method for the game and what is available on the system, I'd be really disappointed if Sony didn't release it in the US as well (especially since they've been advertising it on the US Store and in emails IIRC...not sure if they did that with GT4P). I've always had the assumption that it would be released in the US given earlier statements about the game (thought it was semi-confirmed at some point), although I admit that the possibility of a US release seemed to become less likely in recent weeks for some reason.

Of course, even if it is not formally released in the US, it would probably be trivial for GT fans to obtain the game. At least, I hope that is the case.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty fair as well (for the most part anyway). There were just a few minor comments that I didn't quite agree with.

Also agree with your comments about Resistance and BioShock. Although I still need to play the full version of BioShock...been kind of busy lately, so I've been holding off on getting it until I can better appreciate the game (one advantage of playing a short game like HS).

At this point the only fair comparison would be the X360 after its first 11 months and the PS3 at its present. I wish someone would only compare current PS3 games with only the X360 games that were released in the first 11 months after its launch.

Obviously, right now X360 owns PS3 because of the 1 year head start.

Even if it was more fair, there would be little point in doing so, unless you specifically just wanted to compare games during the first 11 months of each systems life cycle (which wouldn't really have any practical usage, unlike comparing the games out right now). The PS3 wouldn't get any prizes if its initial lineup of games was slightly less crappy than the 360 lineup during the same time period.

If you want, I can look some of that stuff up though (could probably compile a fairly accurate list off the top of my head actually).

However, that would be useful if someone is deciding one which console to purchase and that decision was based on the potential of each system. So it'll be nice to see what the PS3 line-up might (MIGHT) look like a year from now.

BTW, I personaly would purchase the 360 rather than ps3 (don't have neither yet), only because I like the Microsoft types of games better than Sony's. Ex. FPS (360) vs. RPG (ps3), etc. So it also depends on personal preferance.

In that case, it would probably be smarter to just look at what games will be released in the future (or things such as 3rd party relationships, regional sales, and size of 1st party studios), rather than the past. If anything, the better library right now will probably end up with the better library a year from now (all else equal...which is rarely the case). A better library would lead to more sales, more sales leads to exclusive games (or less exclusives games for the other library), more games lead to a better library, etc.

I am trying to choose between the 2 right now but I am torn. I like the Hardware of the PS3 allot better but the 360(elite) kicks its ass on the games and on-line functionality.

What do think the future will hold for PS3 as for on-line and games. Is there anyway PS3 would get bioshock or Halo? I really want to play those 2

I know the new Elite now has true 1080p but if I decided to get a the DVD attachment would it only be 1080I because I did not see an HDMI connection?

I have the new 65" Mits Diamond and I want to maximize its potential.

    dang!!!

check out the new halo 3 videos, its so awesome.
    http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/734/734817/vids_1.html

the HD-DVD is just an additional drive, the video is still coming for the main unit. so if you have hdmi, you will get the 1080p

It is possible (maybe even probable) that the PS3 will get Bioshock, but Halo isn't happening. Microsoft owns the Halo IP (and the studios that make the Halo games), so there's not really any way for the PS3 to get them.

Online functionality seems to be fine to me right now, although it could be better (and that will happen over time). Not sure exactly what you want to know about it.
