And by "best" I mean most affordable, comfortable weather-wise (note: I prefer cold winters over hot summers when it comes to settling for either extreme), safe as far as crime and natural disasters go, and active music scene/band friendly. oh yes, and of course, I would like to experience all four seasons. yes.. i've been in Texas most of my life.. places I'm considering: Boston Upstate New York Maine.. not sure. little help?
Never lived up there, but New Hampshire's way up my list of favorite places. If they had manufacturing industry worth talking about, I'd give it a shot.
Move to Springfield, Mass, so you can see Hakeem get inducted into the HOF live. BTW, what kind of job do you have that allows you the freedom to just up and move anywhere in NE? I might have to consider switching careers.
New Hampshire or Vermont. Both are affordable, laid-back, and the scenery is beautiful. I have a cousin who has lived with his wife in Vermont for the last 15 years and loves it.
I was going to mention Wilmington but thought Hmm might have wanted to go a little further north. I haven't been, but a friend, whose a film maker, moved there a few years ago from New York City and loves it there. Cool scene, on the ocean, nice people and still gets the seasons.
well I can't move anywhere i want in NE. it has to be within my means,which is why I made this thread.. and why "active music scene" and "band friendly" are part of my requirements.. I'm a musician, teach and play. when I need to I pick up a third non-music related non-salary job.
yes, you are correct. further north.. i'd say.. from Maryland on up. what's Baltimore like? is it as awful as some people have made it out to be..?
I followed the link, and my top 4 were Chatanooga, St. George, UT, Tulsa, and Knoxville. Greenville, SC, at #5 was the first one I'd consider.
You can live anywhere cheaply. It just depends on whether or not you want to live in the ghetto. I think Boston would be the most music friendly city on the upper east coast. There's a rich music history, lots of bars and clubs, and a ton of college students. Plus, it's close to Springfield (hint hint)...

I just got back from a trip to Maine (with a few days in Boston and points south). Granted, this is the best time to be up there, but Maine was just gorgeous. I'd definitely recommend a trip up there before you decide. A lot of Maine is rural, but in a way that is really quaint. Portland is a really nice town with a college/foodie type vibe. I'm sure it is band friendly, but if that is a major concern, I'd also look at upstate NY, Vermont and New Hampshire as well.......you'll be close to Montreal. Montreal is definitely my favorite city in North America.
What part of Maine Pole? We have vacationed several times in Greenville on Moosehead Lake and love it! Been to Augusta a couple of times and it's beautiful (in the summer). Just don't know if I could handle the winters. brrrrrrrr
