On a day where certain other Clutchfans favorite teams are having trouble putting away a C-USA team, the defending C-USA champs are destroying Tulane 31-0. Also Oregon is looking like a dark horse National Title contender.
Tulane is not exactly the cream of the crop of Conference USA. They have finished last the past two seasons. UCF had a bad season last year when they finished eighth but they finished atop the Conference USA two seasons ago. Also, UCF had a sold out crowd, was pretty hype about bringing in a national title contender and opening up a new stadium. I don't think Tulane had any of those things going for them.
Game report: Keenum and Joseph need to learn when to tuck and run, and when to throw away the ball. Other than that, our offense was excellent and our defense was even better - OK, maybe the deep coverage was a bit weak, but they made up for it with some incredible hits. Bring on CSU! Bourbon St. report: Kind of overrated - the bars were pretty much all the same, and it felt trashy. Beale St. in Memphis is more fun, IMO Beignet report: The Cafe du Monde was awesome
Don't forget that they lost to I-AA Nicholls State! We should win by at least 4 touchdowns, but I bet mental mistakes will keep it a bit closer. That's where we really miss Kolb - he know when to pass, tuck and run, or throw it away.
I was at that game, pretty ugly. Tulane is terrible and UH is good enough to be in the mix for the CUSA title this year. I would go with the red shirt freshman over Blake.
I am pretty confident that UH is exactly as bad as I think they are. Don't see Oregon in the title game. Nor any other Pac10 team. I suspect that Oregon will lose 2. Not necessarily to USC though... I also think USC will lose 2(seriously). UCLA will lose 2 (in the PAC10). And Cal will probably also lose 2, maybe less.
All I know is I have played 3 seasons with UH on the new NCAA football (best football game ever imo) and only lost 1 time (in the championship game first season against UT) 2 seasons went undefeated, having top 10 teams for all my non conference games and still start the season unranked.
I think the Coogs are somewhat underrated (mostly due to the loss of Kolb). I was surprised to see them move the chains against Oregon the way they did, considering that Oregon is playing like a top 10-15 team right now. As I see it, their only significant threat this year for the C-USA title is UCF ... and if Art Briles can continue to improve his recruiting every year, they might have a strong case to move to the SEC in the next 6-8 years (why not ... in the very least they're better than Vanderbilt today).
I think that will come in time. It's two game into the season & they (freshman & sophmore) are both getting their first start. The Ducks could upset USC at home but unlikely. UH will win Conf-USA again over S. Miss.
