As I was reading Pryuen's article about Morey, I kept thinking that I have seen that guys face in person somewhere before and towards the middle of the article it hit me! During the first Rockets vs. Clippers game last year (in December) I remember running into him and there is a funny story that I thought I might share with my fellow Rockets fans.

Since it was my birthday gift, my girlfriend had got me front row seats behind the basket, right next to the visitors bench. I remember after the game ended, I stood up and was giving high fives to the Rockets as the exited the tunnel to the locker room. I tried to get Yao to sign my jersey and the security guards at Staples were trying to get everyone to leave. Then I saw this gentlemen in a black suit who made his way from the stands and tried to exit after the Rockets through the same tunnel and the security guards wouldn't let him. For some reason, the security guards at Staples are really crazy about kicking people out after the game. And as my girlfriend and I are standing there, we hear him telling the security guard that he is part of the Rockets organization.

However, security wasn't having it and after 5-10 minutes, he gave up and followed us towards the exit. I was wearing a lot of Rockets gear so he started to talk to me and he seemed like a really friendly guy. So I jokingly asked him if he really worked for the Rockets and if he could get me to the locker room so I can meet the players. I left Staples thinking he was probably some low level employee for the Rockets. Its pretty crazy thinking that I actually got a chance to talk to the future Rockets GM and all I asked him was if he can get me to the locker room. It truly is a small world after it. Its also funny how the Staples Center security and staff gave him such a hard time and wouldn't let him take the short-cut to the locker room. I wonder what he was thinking as he was heading towards the exit, the future GM of the Rockets getting turned away by Staples Center security.

sounds like security at the staples center are doing their job. if you are not sitting with the team and sitting in the regular seats, you better have your credentials if you expect to get by security.

    good job, security.

Nobody knew who this guy was last year. I remember he came to the Rowdies section before the 1st SA game and asked for me (I interviewed him for an article I wrote) and everyone thought he was just some season-ticket holder in a suit. And then I asked this lady to take a picture of him and me after the interview on the main concourse and she thought we were co-workers from out of town or something. He'd always walk around the floor and move from seat-to-seat during games. In the playoffs, he and his wife would find a spot and sit there. I remember watching him go crazy after our Game 1 comeback. He was hugging his wife and clapping after we won.

Don't know if you remember, but did his wife have blond hair? I remember while we were walking towards the exit, he was with this lady who had blond hair and that was another thing that kind of made me think he was a low level person in the organization. I think the reason people don't recognize his as part of the organization is that he has this down-to-earth personality.

Now that I think of it, I think he was sitting to the left of me at the second Clippers vs. Rockets. I had similar seats. I have to go back and look at the pictures because I remember the same face at the second Rockets game in a suit with this blond haired lady. He was a real quite fan, but we talked to each other a couple times during the game and he seemed to know a lot about the Rockets that any casual fan wouldn't know unless he was on Clutchfans 24/7 like the rest of us.

We're lucky that our GM is 34-35 yrs ( point out if I'm wrong) old so thats extra young for GM ...

you know what i just realized, like a few of us took a picture with Les at the clipper game in march at staples and Morey was there too but course i didnt recognize him or know him and i am almost positive, maybe one of the other guys with us will have to confirm that it was morey who took the picture for us. there were two blonde ladies with les and a person who looked like morey.

well everyone knows him now i got a chance to meet him in vegas a really nice guy very personable.

I know we talk about these guys like crazy on here, but its sometimes easy to forget that they are just regular people who do regular things all the time. Sure they run the organization of the team we worship, but its still their day job.

Who knows, the guy sitting next to you in the stand could be some hedge fund guy making more than Morey and most of the players on the team. Less likely this year than last year, but still. Rich people in flashy jobs live ordinary lives too, and it's usually the behind the scenes guys like Morey that live a more comfortable, less worrisome life than say any of the players.
