Sweet...Texans and Stros at the same time. Hopefully, they will be on screens side by side at the locka sports bar.
according to cooper, all the young kids should play this series... it's not against a team in contention.
Nothing like ending the game by hitting into a double play. I too am interested to see what Towles can do. I also like watching Josh Anderson and Cody Ransom. Under Purpura none of these guys would be playing.
Cooper is talking like he has the manaer job wrapped for next year. I am not of big fan of promoting within. I would go through an interview process like the GM serach. Interview guys like Cooper, Joe Girardi, Trey Hillman, Jose Oquendo, Bobby Valentine, Bob Brenly, Tony Pena, Terry Pendleton, and Joey Cora.
Leave it to the Pirates to play their best baseball in August and September. Please, just keep torturing me. Why don't ya?
That's silly. When did Purpura have a September that the Astros were completely out of contention? Of course they'd still be playing if he were here -- he had already said that those guys were coming up before his firing.
I wasnt speaking specifically about September. Plus, I would venture to say that they would not be playing if Purpura was here. Right before he got canned, he said he still believed that the NL Central was a wide open race. That being said, I am not a Purpura basher. This is just one area where I did not like his method. Purpura was well accomplished before he became the GM and deserved that opportunity. The other thing I also like to mention is that we will never know exactly how much control Purpura really had.
JR is one skinny catcher behind the plate. He needs add at least 20 pounds in the offseason to survive a major league season.
Huh? The race was open for a challenge -- three weeks ago, when the Astros were within eight games with more than a month left. Now, they're 13.5 games back with 15 games left. It's completely different. Plus, if you weren't speaking about September, I don't get the relevance... it's not like Cooper would be playing these guys if it were July or August. The Astros had planned for some time, much like every major league team -- to play young guys if they were out of contention in September. This isn't something one GM does and another doesn't... it's something they'd all do, Purpura included. Purpura might have taken too long with some of his players (though that's up for debate), but come on. The same guys would've been playing here in September no matter who the manager/GM combo is.
Dennis Sarfate has got a nice arm. He hit 98 mph tonight. If he gets his pitches under control, he will be a nice addition to the bullpen. I foresee him being a closer someday.
