Charles problems in short yardage have pretty much nothing to do with Charles at all. The fumbles are his though, that's just crap. But the short yardage problems are down to design. Greg Davis cannot design a running game without the best player in college football at QB.
Look at Ogbonnnaya on short yardage and the difference is obvious, they are running behind the same line. Charles is a good player in space, without space he is not so great.
eh, Ogbonnaya and McGee aren't that great in short yardage though. We're horrible across the board at picking up anything between the tackles.
But that other guy with the long name (I don't know UT's team too well yet) looked a lot better at short yardage when he was in.
I am amused by coaches who are rude to sideline reporters. O'Leary pulled a "Lloyd Carr" at halftime by just walking away after a few questions Reporter: So coach when will you make a change at QB? GOL: Whenever I feel like it. I'm the head coach. Reporter: Blah Blah...[GOL walks off]
You shouldn't call him a bad back because of his problem in short yardage. Reggie Bush didn't go up the middle. Is Jamal as good as Reggie on the sides and in open field? Hell no. But it shows that backs can be good even if their game in limited like that. At the end of the day, you need yards and thouchdowns. You are not going to call a guy that rushes for 157 yards as not that good. Fumbles you can work on to a good degree. He better thank the clock for bailing him mistake out though cause lord knows it wasn't the Texas D that won the game at the end of the 4th. The computer rankings are going to destroy Texas. They see beyond reputation. I bet it will be at around 12 at this point.
Because we run the zone read way way too often. So while it spreads out the defense it also spreads thin our O-line and makes it hard to pound it through the middle. Also, the fact that Colt isn't a threat to run makes the defense's job that much easier considering the zone read is supposed to create a level of unpredictability. They really need to run more I-formation power sets.
Umm, when people were saying he was better than Adrian Peterson a few years ago, or better than Ray Rice, sorry that's laughable. He might be a good back but he is limited and not as good as the best int he country.
Damn, wish I could've seen this game. I was out watching the Gators romp on the Vols. I was shocked every time I saw the score of this one. USF is up and coming, but UCF I didn't expect this out of them. While I have no love for Miami or FSU I do like seeing other Florida schools try and make a name for themselves.
they need to scrap the zone read scheme. it worked with vince because people feared his running ability. nobody fears colt mccoy. line up in the I or do something. also, are there no other RB's on the Texas roster besides Charles and Obangnaya? Where's Vondrell McGee?
F*cking pathetic!!!!! All around crap performance against a crap florida team. What's even more pathetic is that Charles spot is secure sue to his seniority, Mack Brown ain't gonna bench him next week cause it might hurt his wittle feelings. I'm getting the KY ready for the American Me style prison ass raping OU is gonna administer. F*ck this! I'm off to see The Killers.
I actually didn't think the performance was that bad, UCF is a decent team that whooped NC State earlier and has a very good RB. UT had a lot of long drives and moved the ball through the air and in the ground, the problem is that most of the drives ended in 3, I think they attempted 6 FG's on the day, which is way too many. Obviously the TO's were uncool also. The LB's sucked butt, as usual though. And the secondary was spotty. And lots of sloppy personal foul/late hits.
Go to hornfans.com (if it ever comes back on line) and do some searches. Many people used to think he was just as good. Or look on this board. Somebody once told me that Charles was a much better between the tackles runner than Ray Rice. Absurd. People overinflate their opinion of charles - like I said before he is a talented runner in space and agood receiver, but not so good in short yardage and has obvious ball security issues. He basically cost the horns 14 points today singlehandedly (though he contribued a few points too). Nobody said he was bad, like you accused me of, I just said he was not that great.
