i see your point, but i do have a life i'm going to just remain optimistic rather than waste my time tracing "all" mediocre teams [This message has been edited by WHAM! (edited January 23, 2000).]
the rockets are beyond cool and they are quite inspirational, but i don't think researching the winning streaks of "all" other mediocre teams is in any way going to be productive for me. but you're more than welcome to take a crack at it if you want!
I'm not personally going to do this research, but I think it might be useful. Face it: the record sucks. Yet, as fans, we have a tendency to glamorize our teams, so maybe it would be useful to find REAL statistical differences between other teams that haven't performed well and houston.
C'mon Wham, you know when the Rockets win life is great and when the Rockets lose life sucks! Admit it, the Rockets are your life.
I think most are missing the point of Heypartner's post. It underscores the importance of selecting the right guy to build your team around. Most teams never get that guy. I think the Rockets at least have a chance with Francis. Look at a guy like Grant Hill. He puts up great numbers, but is he a guy that's going to lead the Piston's to a championship some day? Only time will tell, I suppose.
Steve Francis,by the end of the year should be averaging close to 20,10,and 5....Those are scary numbers for ANYONE,let alone a rookie.I'm not saying he's going to crank out a Tiny Archibald(lead the league in scoring and assists)Probably not,but who knows?)....but I am saying unlike Archibald, with a little help from the brass with free agent signings and deals,Little Stevie Skywalker should eventually lead this team to titles.Look at it this way we are going through the toughest part now and compared to what other FRANCHISES go through when they rebuild, this is child's play,a short stretch in with the mediocre teams of the NBA.Something magical IS happening now though...INTERESTING...fun team to watch, the future is bright!
In Saturday's Chronicle, the Boston Celtics are reported to have just compiled their first 4-game winning streak since Pitino's 1st season (Dec 23, 1997). They have not had a 5-game winning streak since Walker's been there. Considering we have a 5-game winning streak in Francis's 1st season, this factoid kinda puts a new light on any talk about endless mediocrity. It means one thing to me: Walker can never lead the Celtics out of mediocrity like Francis will with the Rockets. Whoever has time, trace back all the mediocre teams and see who's put together a 5-game winning streak.
