So I've been a MMA fan since the first UFC, when it was called "Human Cockfighting". I've been a MMA fan as long as I have been a Rockets fan.

It was an intrigue to me seeing a man barely 160lbs soaking wet beating guys twice his size in as many as 4 to 5 fights a night .... such were the true NHB fights that started it all.

So this thread is just for us Rockets/MMA fans to BS around our favorite pass time.

I've also just started a video aggregating and voting site for all MMA videos at www.MMADaddy.com

This Saturday Sept 15, I'll be watching the EliteXC card on showtime. It's a stacked card headlined but Murillo "Ninja" Rua vs. Robbie Lawler, and Nick Diaz vs. Mike Aina.

Actually I am still pumped from last Saturday's UFC 75 and I can't wait til tomorrow's EliteXC card.

    Robbie Lawler, huh?

I haven't heard that name in a while...

Is his fighting style still the same as it used to be?

That Nick Diaz/Robbie Lawler fight in the UFC is still one of my all-time favorite fights...

The Fireball Kid would burn nick diaz in a rematch.

Kid Yamamoto is the best featherweight in the world.

    Fedor owns everyone

Lawler is currently the MW champion with ICON, a promotion from Hawaii that just got bought by EliteXC. He still can strike and actually looks bigger now. That fight you mentioned was a favorite of mine as well.

Nate Diaz is excellent, one of the better ones in a stacked division. His brother Nate, on the other hand, is overrated I think.

I don't know about Lawler taking Diaz in a rematch. I'd love to see them do it again though. I was shocked when they fought last time and Diaz wanted to trade with him but it worked. If it went to the ground Diaz would school him.

Diaz beat one of the best, if not best lightweight in the world when he beat Gomi so I'd never count that guy out against anybody. I like Lawler too, but I'd give Diaz the edge in the rematch.

Its a good card so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Also, Thursday there's a Fight Night on Spike, then the debut of TUF, then a week from tonight, UFC 76.

Gomi is still one of the baddest muthfrackas in the world. he just needs to go train his ass off with sum bjj masters. his hands are so crisp and deadly. his chin is the best among lighweights.

winning the belts really ****ed him. i guess once u reached the top u just wanna party and still think u can stay on top.

the gomi that beat kawajiri, sakurai, pulver would have punched diaz's head off instead of just putting a hole in his face.

seems like alot of great fighters have fallen off recently. crocop, and wanderlei.

Started watching MMA again after some guys here talked up Liddell. Been decent so far, I'm a little disappointed by the plethora of guys who don't even bother trying for any strikes and just goes for the takedown each time. Thoroughly enjoy watching the guys who at least try to do something other than simple ground wrestling.

You should check out the fights tonight if you have Showtime.

Nick Diaz is very fun to watch fight if you haven't seen him. I'm glad the fight is free but I'd pay to see him fight anytime.

Also, whoever said Nate Diaz is overated I'm gonna disagree. He did look like crap against Manny, but that guys a tough matchup for anybody because he's so small and muscular. Nate was beating Hermes Franca last year until he made a mistake and got caught in a submission. I think that's his only loss and Franca is/was a badass. He's nowhere near as talented as his brother but he's still young and will only get better as he gets older.

I'm a casual MMA fan, by no means do I pay attention to the techniques of the sport. To me, it's street brawling with a few rules like no headbutting and no groin shots. It's still fun as hell to watch. I still think that boxers are head and shoulders above MMAers in terms of skill and technique, but throw in the takedown, and they're super vulnerable.

I'm not sure what UFC taking over Pride does for the sport. Competition is a good thing.

not trying to be rude, but if you look at it that way then i guess you really don't what you are watching.

anyhow, have you guys seen roger huerta? i've got a friend who was really good friends with him when he lived in austin. i saw the guy fight a couple UFCs back and he was freaking awesome. it's like he just knew everything that was going on and he was in total control when the other guy tried to do anything. i think he is like 20-1 now and his one loss the doctors wouldn't let him continue because the other guy broke his jaw. i didn't see that fight but my friend said he was totally coherent and he could have easily continued.

All I know is Alexander Houston is the next great thing. The guy is a mutha#%*ing Savage. This guy pretty much came out of nowhere and the last 2 fights I've seen of him he doesn't just beat people he kills them.

Also I'm very excited for Shogun Rua coming  The light heavyweight division is stacked!

You mean Houston Alexander ... http://www.mmadaddy.com/search.php?search=houston+alexander&tag=true

Yeah he's a bad dude and looks for the kill every time. I think I would like to see him against Tito or Liddell, before they all get too old.

if you dont pay attention to the techniques, than you're missing the whole point. mma is all about the different styles/techniques all in one. i myself love when its on the ground, think its better to watch. if you dont care for that, i'd say stick with boxing.

the reason ufc wants to take over pride is so they can have all the great fighters from pride/ufc fight each other. makes for some great card fights.

I am pumped for the card tonight on showtime. I kept Showtime just for the EliteXC cards. I used to train with KJ Noons at the same gym here in -Town a few years ago so I tried to catch him on EliteXC's cards whenever he fights.

As for ate Diaz, I still think he's nowhere near his brother Nick. Nate's style is getting beat up for two rounds and pull out a submission on the 3rd. Unless he has gotten a lot better lately, otherwise he'll remain overrated in my book. Let's see how he does on next week's UFC fight night.

I like Swick. I was really hoping he'd get to fight Leben, but for whatever reason that fell through. He lost to a good fighter, but he'll be in contention for a title in a couple years.

I like Swick too but haven't heard much about him since he got destroyed by Okami. I think Okami was a little too strong for him.

I would like him to try a couple fights at 170 and think he can do some real damage there. I like those quick knockouts.
