WTH's up w/ that stadium anyway? It looks like a converted hangar inside.. and out, and the lighting always sux. As for the SA Marlins, they should try to get 'Seaworld' brand on the stadium so the name makes some sense... ...not that 'Staples' helped out the desert-bound Lakers at all.
I think thats the way its going all across. Cities like Miami and Los Angeles show it more (Houston depending on circumstance) but more and more people simply care more about themselves and their own lives than sports action. People are into "lifestyles" and image and whats going on in their own life circle more than content and game strategy. Reality tv and "Dancing with the Stars" captures people's collective imagination more than Week 3 AFC matchup. Its not necessarily a bad or good thing, just how it is time to time. There's probably 5-6 real sports cities out there. After that its just people going to games cuz its the thing to do for the time being, or cuz there's nothing else better to do period. Or they like the glitz and glam of pro sports and want to see how their rides are pimped and all that, the game score being irrelevant. Sports is something the average person can associate and dis-associate themselves with easier than say "Keeping up with the Jones", church, local party scene, etc. In LA, Seahawks-Redskins takes people's attention AWAY from...getting attention. Yeah if you look at everything like that its why even be into ANYTHING, just apatha-thise life away and do nothing Or maybe I been in SoCal too long.
Talking to a couple of friends who live in Miami, there are 2 problems. 1. The stadium absolutely sucks for baseball and without a roof, you are miserable for 9 innings to see a team that most likely is going to lose that day. 2. There is so much to do in Miami, that sitting in hell at a Marlins game does not sound like a good choice.
I am here to amuse. And I don't care about being behind - I have been behind my whole life and plus I like how the word "jabroni" sounds, so I will keep saying it from time to time.
NFL Cheaters - Shawne Merriman, Patriots, Players constantly trying to move the ball up a few inches after they get tackled, Some Panther's players had prescriptions filled for steroids, ballsack grabbing, eye gouging and who knows what else in those large pile ups stupid fights - Right....there are no stupid fights in the NFL. Parity - Really? Look at the league...there are a handful of great to good teams and the rest of them are ok to outright stinkage. NBA Cheaters - Refs, whining, flopping, ball grabbing. stupid fights - Again...right there are no stupid fights in the NBA Parity - East vs. West...enough said. The only thing you got the other sports on is the fact that there is no cap. But...imo....ALL athetes are overpaid.
yeah, they do. they've never drawn 3 million fans at that "glorious" ballpark. but their climate isn't nearly as rainy as miami's.
I guarantee that a ballpark in coconut grove, with a roof, would do wonders for the franchise... Miami is a bandwagon town (just like Houston, Atlanta, and virtually most newer cities), and would stick with a team that was in a good situation (which the Marlins have never been in... even with their world series wins). Additionally, owners WOULD see a benefit of re-investing in the team... right now, they're simply trying to make ends meet by playing in a football stadium, in oppresive heat/rain, in the middle of nowhere (relatively speaking... Joe Robbie is in the middle of a big parking lot, far away from downtown miami or south beach).
what about the tampa bay team? do people go watch them play? does anyone or should anyone in florida care about baseball?
Coconut Grove??? Where the **** would they build a stadium there? This team NEEDS a downtown ballpark, but it's going to be at the Orange Bowl site. I spoke with a person with the Marlins today and they're putting together a 'Facility Development' team to go ahead with the OB site. It's not ideal, they know that, but there aren't any other feasible options. The contract runs through '09, but Huizenga will allow them to stay as long as a new home is being built; there were rumors saying how he wouldn't mind the team building a facility right next to Dolphin Stadium, as he's got a grand conceptual plan for development in the area...conventions, possible theme park, hotels. Won't happen, even with the Metrorail being extended up there in the next 5-7 years.
God I hate the Florida teams. The Marlins have zero fanbase and managed to win two world series teams and the freaking Devil Rays are worthless but they get pretty much half of their games in HD on tv which is crazy for a team that bad. Just get rid of both of those sorry teams. No one wants them.
