Unless Scola is the bona fide 3rd option on this team, there is no way he will even be IN CONTENTION for ROY. And he will not be the bona fide 3rd option, not with Steve Francis, Mike James and Bonzi Wells all wanting a piece of the action. As much as we all are happy with the Scola trade, please do not overinflate the expectations and expect him to perform like the next [pick: Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Elton Brand, Carlos Boozer, (any other All Star PF)].
I have a feeling that Scola will be a top 3 choice for ROY. With Oden out, Scola really has to chance to be the best big man rookie this year. If Durant were to drop with an injury making him miss any significant time, then its a good possibility. I think he needs to win the starting spot from Hayes first though.
I think favorites to win ROY the year right now would be: Top 5, following the Oden injury: 1. Durant 2. Horford 3. Brewer 4. Yi 5. Conley I'd throw Scola in the group that follows. I don't know. After KD, no one really jumps out at you, but I think Horford could have a stat-line similar to Amare's the year he won over Yao, if he gets enough PT. Brewer, Yi, Conley...again all PT dependent. If I had to pick a surprise player for ROY, given Elton Brand's injury, it would be Al Thorton. The Clips could go small with Thorton at PF, and then give him backup minutes at SF.
No Way, now that Oden out for the entire season with Microfracture surgery, Kevin Durant should be a shoe-in for ROY. Scola maybe a top 5 candidates http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/blog/index?name=simmons
With greg Oden oh i mean greg "ODONE" LOL out for the year, i think it'll be between him and durant. i think durant will have better numbers because he'll probaly be seattles number 1 option. Durant Scola Horford brewer AC law Thats the top 5 rookies.
Obviously not the most flatering picture of super scola, but it just shows he's fire and determination that will win over alot of fans not just rom the rockets but the rest of the league.
This thread should have a poll attached to it because the question would consist of a yes or no answer. I think that it is possible that he could. It all depends on how well he jells in the NBA. I would say that if he does jell the way he did just recently (in Las Vegas), which is demand doubleteams while on offense, then the Rockets could go a long way in the playoffs. With Yao and T-Mac out on the floor together with Scola, I think that opposing teams could be in trouble if they ever had to set up a special defense just to contain Scola.
How many times has 50+ win team had the rookie of the year? Probably never, but perhaps someone can search for the answer. So if there was a poll, my vote would be no.
