http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/archives/2007/09/houston_feeling.html September 12, 2007 Houston feeling tropical moisture; storm forming elsewhere Houston will experience its second tropical event today, following Tropical Storm Erin last month, as an impulse of moisture off the Gulf brings widespread rain into the area. This tropical wave, dubbed Invest 90L, has an outside chance of developing into a tropical depression or even storm before coming ashore. As can be seen in this loop, the wave has increased its thunderstorm activity this morning. Whether the wave organizes further before moving inland doesn't really matter much, we're going to get wet. The water vapor image clearly shows this:
Well it looks like thing is going to be a TS some time shortly. Funny thing is this is about how far out Alicia was when it formed and look what it did http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/gmex/loop-avn.html
Jeez guys. This is just a storm that built up yesterday. Not exactly life-threatening. Expect some rain later today.
just developed really quickly. last night they were just calling it a low pressure system...there was some indication of organization and circulation...they were saying it MIGHT be a depression...outside chance of a storm. i think it developed far more quickly than they anticipated. talk of about 10 inches of rain in the next 24 hours. whether TS or TD, it likely means we get really wet. (that's what she said)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070912/ap_on_re_us/tropical_weather Well yahell is finally reporting it.
who is saying that? we get that you aren't interested and that you don't think it's a big deal...so why do you open the thread?
No Alicia started just south of LA Here is its track: http://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/at1983.asp
ahhh...you're right. i do remember the weathermen at the time tellling us it was going to turn towards Louisiana...they were saying that not very long before it made landfall at Freeport. they're far better at tracking now. a twister broke off of that storm and took the roof off the home i grew up in. we were in a hotel for 2 months while our home was repaired. and parts of houston were without power for about 2 weeks. not fun in august heat.
i've always wondered how our mobile home stood up to alicia. i don't even remember the actual storm, just the aftermath b/c a tree fell right on our neighborhood road.
If this thing drops 10 inches over night. Houston will have another Allison like effect due to the excessive amount of rain we have had over the last 2 months
Mainly due to the fact that I've never been afraid of Hurricanes, much less Tropical Depression/Storms. I expect tonight we'll see more morons flooding their cars by driving through streets they have no business driving through, and a few branches here and there. Point is, this isn't a storm to be concerned about.
