A few days back I posted about them being interested in Cory Hightower. Next thing I know he scores 40 pts. I did not know he was Tracy McGrady's old high school teammate. Not mention he beat him one-on one. Wow. They really do their research. ...Cory Hightower scored 40 points in nearly every way possible against Kennedy-King (IL) in Indian Hills (IA) 101-73 win. The 6-8 guard was 5 of 8 from three-point range and had 12 rebounds and eight assists. The lefty signed with TCU in the early signing period, but there has been speculation that he will likely enter his name into the Draft before the May 14th deadline for underclassmen to apply for the June 28th Draft. Hightower averaged 13.3 points as a freshman and he was named MVP of the NJCAA Tournament as the Warriors defeated Barton County (KS) 100-86 in the championship game in Hutchinson, Kansas. Hightower is averaging 23.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season for the 18-2 Warriors. He is shooting 52.4% from the field, 42.7% from three-point range and 75.8% from the charity stripe. Hightower is listed at 6-8, but may be closer to 6-7 and 200 pounds, which may also be inflated. He has very thin legs and arms. Hightower is a very good ballhandler and passer, although he sometimes tries to be too flashy, which lead to seven turnovers against Kennedy-King. Hightower has excellent shooting range and has the ability to make the NBA three-pointer. He toyed with the idea of turning pro out of high school to follow in the footsteps of former Mt. Zion Christian Academy teammate Tracy McGrady. Hightower had said that he often beat McGrady in one-on-one in practice. His academic shortcomings forced him to go the junior college route. He reportedly will receive his associate of arts degree, but some critic's question his ability to be eligible next season, increasing the talk about him turning pro...
The ideal route would be to make the playoffs this year, and draft an unknown wonder [just younger, but with the same talent as the Top-5's] with the 14th pick.
What was that about Cuttino Mobley beating the likes of Gary Payton in one-on-one contests in the off-season again? Oh yes... he won that, too... and I know we all would rather have Cuttino than Gary, right? As we said before, who cares? There are lots of stars in college and high school that don't make it for one reason or another. The year Jason Kidd came out of college there was another guard that MANY touted even higher than Kidd. His name : Randy Livingston. Blown-out knees took care of that. Let's wait till these kids hit puberty or a few years after it to proclaim our scouts great. I can probably find some high schoolers with incredible numbers as well, and all I'd have to do is open up a newspaper. ------------------ trade him.
I hope i dont get lynched for making suck comments, but I like Cuttino a lot..he really isnt that sharp of a shooter but he has the ablity to take 70-80% of the opposing gaurds to the hole...and beeing a lefty helps also....Now with the Wiz hitting his shots more and more i think we will see less of Cuttino's wild shotting and more of his running/slashing game, he is a great young player he has tremendous heart and desire, he has really been asset to this squad...the only area of his game that is really hurting is his FG%...I think if he playes smarter and plays his game he can bring those numbers to respectablity
cuttino beat gary one on one, or in the skills competition ? that would REALLY be meaningless. If that holds true, then curtis martin would be the best RB in the NFL, and we know taht aint true. But, if Corey beat Mcgrady one on one, then i would think he has some talent ------------------ "Don't they get cable in Canada ?" Keith olbermann, after watching hakeem block terry catledge's shot 5 times.
Who cares about one-on-one?? Last time I checked this game was still played 5-on-5. Also, the only area of Mobley's game that is hurting is his shot selection. I still say once learns how to hit the mid-range jumper and make better on court decisions he can easily score 20 ppg. Till that time comes, he is trade bait. ------------------ The key for the Rockets is a winning attitude and mentality which can only be had by winning basketball games.
