Williams, the Pacers first-round draft pick in 2006, was initially charged with possession of mar1juana, driving without a license, driving with an expired license plate and failure to signal a lane change, records show. Williams was released without having to post bond about 10:30 a.m. He is scheduled to appear for an initial hearing before Marion Superior Court Judge Linda E. Brown at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Officer Danny Reynolds arrested Williams, 21, Memphis, Tenn., and two other men after he spotted a 2007 Cadillac Escalade with dark tinted windows make an illegal lane change. Reynolds also noticed the vehicle had an expired Tennessee license plate, according to a police report. Reynolds stopped the SUV about 12:45 a.m. in the 800 block of West 29th Street and noted a strong odor of mar1juana coming from the open driver’s side window, according to the report. The driver, Williams, did not have a driver’s license, police said, and gave Reynolds a Tennessee identification card. One passenger, Roderick Helton, 32, of Memphis, was carrying a Smith & Wesson 9-mm handgun that had been reported stolen in Collierville, Tenn. Reynolds arrested Helton for carrying the gun without a license and theft. Police found a mar1juana “blunt” cigarette in the vehicle’s ashtray. Passenger Roosevelt Rollins, 21, Memphis, told police the mar1juana belonged to him. Police arrested Rollins for mar1juana possession. Statement from Larry Bird released today: “We are extremely disappointed concerning the arrest of Shawne Williams early this morning. "Although the legal process needs to be followed, we will not accept Shawne putting himself in this position, regardless of innocence or guilt. "We as an organization in general and our players in particular have to take into consideration our accountability to our fans in our decision-making. "This was clearly a bad and unacceptable decision. We will be meeting with Shawne at some point to discuss this and pursue any disciplinary action we can take.” About Williams Size: 6-9, 225 College: Memphis Drafted: First round (17th pick overall), 2006. As a rookie: Williams played in 46 games last season and made three starts. He averaged 3.9 points and 1.8 rebounds. He scored a career-high 19 points March 28 against New Jersey. Can we trade Rafer for Williams, Indiana has many bigs and we have many smalls and they need a PG, what do you guys think?
It would be nice, but why would they take one malcontent for another? Maybe they would take an expiring contract like Suras...and we can buy out Reefer...... DD
Williams does not make as much as Rafer so they would have to throw in more players. We don't have room for more players so no, this will not work.
because it will fill in a need at the PG. If they are getting a malcontent anyways, then they might as well get it from a player they can utilize.
They aren't going to take a a veteran PG for a young player who has the potential to be better. Rafer is fully developed at this point in his career.
If you're driving with no licence, expired plates, a stolen handgun, and a blunt in the ashtray, can't you at least signal when....ugh never mind Isn't this the same guy many fans were hoping to draft this year?
No, that was Sean Williams from Boston College that got drafted by the New Jersey. This Shawne Williams was drafted last year and plays for the Pacers.
Indiana would be stupid for even entertaining this idea. Shawne Williams has only been in the league for a year and was nearly a lottery pick. Giving up on him so soon would be foolish.
Indian is a team that has not done much this offseason and the trade they did midseason last year with the warriors did nothing to them, Bird has not done much lately, they are not happy with Tinsley and they have to do something to keep O'neil happy, so I am hopping they try to pull some moves before training camp.
I don't think they will give up on him.He will get another chance, probably with a warning and a fine.
