Michigan was ranked 5th in the nation going into their opening game against a team in a lower tier (1 AA) and got beat.

May not sound like much, but other similar match-ups resulted in the lower-tier teams getting beat by 50 or 60 points. The gap in talent is huge between Div. 1 and Div. 1-AA.

This is true at the upper levels (ie, Michigan), but Appy State is a two-time I-AA champion. I'd guess they are better than a lot of the lower-tier I-A teams like Arky State and the lower-tier teams in the MAC, Sun Belt, etc.

So what you're contending is that App State beating Michigan was somewhat of an upset?

    Hmmmm, interesting perspective.
