Sorry I don't know the exact phrase for this medical check but I guess you get what I mean. I experienced a very bad "stomach spasm" a month ago and was sent to a public hospital after some drinks. The doctor suggested me to take an endoscope check considering that the spasm was the 3rd time already so I was put into the queue then and was expected to go back to the hosipital some day in April 2009! Let aside the rediculous schedule here, I plan to take the endoscope check in a private hospital. However, I heard that such stomach check isn't really a pleasant experience and some may even vomit during the process, and I believe local anaesthetic is required? Care to share your experience? Cheers.
When I was in Lubbock, I was having diarreah all the time. I was taking imodium like it was going out of style, so I wanted to get myself checked out. I was told to drink a gallon of this crap to cleanse my bowels. I spent the entire night on the crapper urinating out of my ass. My dad called me the next morning and told me to cancel the appt. and come to Houston where there are better doctors. So I spent the entire Friday night on the crapper for nothing. Turned out I was drinking too much. Who knew?
That's some kind of experience, might as well bring out your feminity. But it didn't stop you from drinking, did it? I mean your intestines might be allergic to alcohol while my stomach couldn't stand too much tannin. I didn't keep my promise to stay away from alcohol and took some whisky last weekend, gladly nothing happened.
Usually they knock you out with Versed. Other than the IV prick you don't know nothin'. "Count backwards from 100...100, 99,9zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" You wake up 30 minutes later, have a cup of coffee, and go about your day. I did it a bunch o times when I was in a medical study of G.E.R.D. getting FDA approval for the dug Nexium. ( now me, I'm just crazy enough that I that I like to think...OK this oblivion is what death is like..and I think about it while they knocked me out. It doesn't seem too bad really, then I wake up up later and it's all a dream)
Are you in America?? Endoscopy and colonoscopy (what fatty was going to get) are two different procedures. Endoscopy is putting a scope down your throat into the esophagus and into the stomach and first part of duodenum. The endoscopist can see if there are ulcers, inflammation or any other abnormalities. They can also take microscopic biopsies if need be. The procedure is not unpleasant as they will give you demerol which will make you not feel it and versed which is amnesic (so you probably won't remember much). There is no colonic prep like for colonoscopy, hence no diarrhea. I ask if you in America b/c in NHS I don't know if they use the same standard meds as we do.
Let's see. . . . got out of crappy town and away from crappy school and the crap stopped . .. interesting Coincidence. . . i think not Rocket River
If you having the spasms after drinking it is probably caused by H-Pylori which is a bacteria that causes ulcers. You most likely have an inflammation of it if you are mainly only having it when you drink. The procedure is easy besides the slight sore throat afterwards and being groggy as hell afterwards. They will most likely give you a prev pack if it only H-Pylori. it is 8 pills a day for 14 days...hope this helps. BTW: My wife just had one 2 weeks for the same symptoms but she has had 4 of these tests over the last 5 years. I believe they finally fixed it due to her being immune to the prev pack
Thank you guys for the valuable information. Feel better about the procedure now. jcantu, I am not in America and the medical check will go through my throat so it has to be endoscopy. Is it possible that one not get knocked out during the procedure? I check via internet and found some mentioned that the endoscope might go through your nose instead of your throat and you can even chat with the endosopist (thanks jcantu for the vocab) during the process. DUCK2324, thanks for the info of the nasty bacteria. Wish your wife has fully recovered from the disease. The doctor mentioned some kind of bacteria in Chinese to me and I just realize it is in fact H-Polyri after reading your post. If the result found to be "H-Polyri" positive, I will make sure they give me sufficient medicine I need (man 112 pills!). You mentioned "prev pack" so does it mean antibiotics? Sorry I am not familiar with some terms here which you may find "common".
