The support for the regime in Pakistan is pretty much supported by everyone so I'm not sure what your problem with that is - you'll have to be more specific. The situation is hardly the result of a joint effort, and again not sure what your problem is with our support of the resistance to the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan.
Yes, because support of a dictatorship with nuclear weapons, which also ignores terrorists with anti-us intentions within its borders, is just fine as long as the regime itself is cooperating with US agendas. The problem is what happens when our support for this regime helps undermine that same regime and it potentially is replaced by a fanatical religious anti-us regime that now has nuclear weapons. That's my problem with that. The problem was what happened after the USSR left town. We also left town. The result was a religious extremist government ruling over a desperate population which led to the establishment of terrorist training camps and a home base for the launching of several terrorist strikes against US interests; including that little thing we like to call 911. Cheers, Brock
On a related note we have also sought to undermine democracy in the Palestinian territories and to some extent in Lebanon.
This is why I seldom post in D&D. I refuse to believe any reports coming from snopes or salon. They are yellow journalism at best.
Refman, here's a brief bit from Wikipedia on Blumenthal. Now, you may not think much of Wikipedia, either, which is certainly imperfect, but here you go... Sidney Blumenthal served as assistant and senior adviser to Bill Clinton from August 1997 until January 2001. His roles included advising the President on communications and public policy as well as researching information in the general media about the White House. Because of Blumenthal's previous career in journalism he was able to pass on positive stories about the Clinton White House (from state and local sources) that were otherwise missed in general mass circulation. His role in the White House was significant enough for him to be crucial in the legal proceedings of the 1998/1999 Impeachment of President Clinton. During the investigations by White House independent counsel Kenneth Starr, Blumenthal was called to the Grand Jury to testify on matters related to what Clinton had told both Blumenthal and his senior staff in regards to Monica Lewinsky. It was on this occasion that Blumenthal was accused by the independent counsel of seeking to discredit the office of the counsel by passing stories to the media about Starr and his aides. The resultant statement by Blumenthal on the steps of the Grand Jury about the freedom of the press after his testimony resulted in a public fall of support for Starr and his investigations of the President.[5] Nevertheless, the leadership of the Republican majority in the House of Representatives felt that enough evidence existed in regard to the Paula Jones case and Lewinsky for impeachment proceedings to begin in December of 1998. After the House Judiciary Committee and the United States House of Representatives impeached Clinton on December 19, the matter then passed to the United States Senate. Blumenthal was one of only four witnesses called to testify before the Senate. (Although no live witnesses were called, the four were interviewed on videotape.) Blumenthal's testimony addressed the key "lie": that Clinton was allegedly pressuring Betty Currie and Blumenthal himself to state that it was Lewinsky who initially pursued Clinton, not vice versa. Unfortunately for the prosecution, Lewinsky herself stated that she was the one who instigated the relationship. With the assistance of other evidence and arguments, the Senate acquitted Clinton of perjury and impeachment proceedings ended. Blumenthal also served as key organiser and supporter of the Third Way conferences, aimed at creating a movement for progressive governance throughout the world. He was present at the two original conferences, both in the U.K. and America in which he became friends with the newly elected Labour leader Tony Blair. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidney_Blumenthal The guy certainly isn't chopped liver. I would believe him before I'd think about even considering thinking about believing Rove on anything. D&D. Impeach Bush and Cheney.
The WMDs are buried in the sand in Syria. Bush knows it. And years from now after you crackheads have forgotten, they will be dug up and then the world will realize, "Oh, Saddam really did have WMDs." Of course, some Michael Moore conspiritist nutball will then produce a book and a film showing how Bush had the Navy Seals and the Secret Service plant that stuff over the border when the US took over Iraq.
How did they get to Syria. All of our satellites were surely watching the area, and we had troops all over the region. In addition Syria was not on friendly terms with Saddam It sounds like anyone who believes the WMD's were buried in Syria might be the conspiracy nut.
The link is missing....................... just like the link was missing for many years that HST had intelligence that the Japs were going to bomb Pearl Harbor. We didn't know about that until years later. How anyone can say Saddam did not have WMDs when he used them on his own people is beyond common sense. It's absolutely ridiculous.
That's what I would call it. Remember they sent in actual ground troops to fight against Saddam. If you believe they were allies, please provide link. Or is it just another nutjob conspiracy theory.
He had them prior to the first world war, and Clinton's bombings of them. After that he didn't have them anymore.
jopatmc, with all due respect, could you at least get the guy's initials right?? D&D. IMPEACH Bush and His Puppeteer. Bush... the Living Embodiment of the Peter Principal.
