What if we got Durant this year. My head just pop thinking about the lineup.

    Yao
    Scola
    Durant
    McGrady
    Francis

I would do it but they wouldn't take his salary. I am serious.

Also, Sam, last year was the beginning of the 'wheeler-dealer' days in Portland.

It was this mentality which has them where theyare now, and which brought them everything it did in this year's draft.

And since Francis was an extension of just that mentality, if they had not swung the deal for Roy, I doubt that they would have made the same subsequent moves they made, including picking up and buying out SF3.

So it would be extremely doubtful that SF3 would be on this team had we picked pu Roy. Not to mention the fact that we would have all been screaming for a small forward/perimeter shooter/defender this offseason, since our biggest gaping hole this year would have been the hole Shane filled LAST year, so, again, doubtful that SF3 is somoene we would have been interested in bringing back without his having a buyout.

I don't really think Shane fulfills all these roles as well as we estimate. His shooting is good but not voluminous enough, his perimeter defense I never found that spectacular.

They wouldn't do it on talent either.

The only thing I want to add is that in all likelyhood, they also wouldn't take him due to his history of back problems, which might end his career sooner rather than later.

Is this the start of an annual "What if we got Brandon Roy in 2006" thread?

If we could have gotten Roy we would have.

    We didn't.

Shane is the man and Roy is the enemy.

Look if we would have gotten Roy, we would not have Scola/Francis/Shane and Adelman.

I think a Shane/Scola/Francis/Adelman team is better than the one Sam is enamored with.....

His defense is pretty tenacious to me. I'd definetley take him over bowen these days. Also I think the formula to win a championship is a quality big man, quality swingman, and a junk yard defender such as shane to take pressure off the swingman. This is the spurs model and it has worked pretty well thus far. Even in Adelmans system it was Webber, Peja, and Christie.

So even if the Roy scenario was possible I think we still got something close to equal value in reality.

EDIT:probably overstated my position by saying battier=roy but we definetley filled a much bigger void with battier. And in hindsight, with all our scoring guards at the moment I don't see the logic of having roy and losing battier...
