HTML: http://www.nba.com/2007fibaamericas/recap_070905.html Argentina is even stronger than we thought They showed up in Vegas without Manu Ginobili, Andres Nocioni, Walter Herrmann, Fabricio Oberto, Pepe Sanchez and Ruben Wolkowisky. That is six of their top eight players from last year's World Championships. Yet, they still won every game except the two they played against the U.S., taking the silver medal and the other automatic bid to the Olympics. Led by tourney MVP Luis Scola, the Argentines sent a message to the world. If they're at full strength, they are a deep team. Last year's Bronze Medal Game starters were Sanchez, Ginobili, Nocioni, Oberto and Scola. If they start again next year, Argentina has Herrmann, Carlos Delfino, Wolkowisky and Pablo Prigioni (a point guard who made an impact in Vegas) coming off the bench. That is a stacked team right there.

I wonder how a real NBA would fare though. I'm thinking they might do better than the superstars on Team USA just because they know how to play together.
I would prefer a starting lineup of Francis/James, McGrady, Battier, Scola, Yao over Sanchez, Ginobili, Nocioni, Oberto and Scola, The Rockets are as good or better at every position save small forward.
Argentina is good, focused, tough. Would they beat the Rox? How about, would they beat the latter day Dream Team or the Rox or other NBA squads with NBA rules? One of the things we American NBAers tend to forget is 'we' play by 'their' rules. It does make a difference.
Not a single player on Argentina's team would make the USA squad. They couldn't even sit the bench on Team USA. None of them. Let the battle for the silver medal begin.
True. But that does not mean they could not beat the US in Beijing. The Gold medal is decided in one game (and the playoffs for that matter), anything can happen. It is not like a 7 game series where the best team always wins.
by 2010 all those dudes are gonna be older and slower, USA will be even better..lebron will be close to MJ, carmelo will be insanely good, lotta stuff can happen in a few years
Basketball is a team sport. Greece beated Team USA last year without any of their players playing in the NBA.
