Bridgestone Corporation announced November 16, 2001 it has developed the world's largest tyre and will begin marketing it in spring 2002. The new radial tyre for dump trucks that carry loads of 380 to 400 short tons, stands 4.02 metres (158.5 inches) tall and measures 1.47 (57.9 inches) across. Next to it (L) is a tire for Formula One competition. REUTERS/Bridgestone them's big tires... or tyres (if you're English) rH
Don't those Terex monster dump trucks use these tires? I remember the Terex Titan dump truck used to be the largest vehicle in existence (if you don't count that thing that moves Saturn V rockets out to the launch pad in Florida. )
I managed to dig up some pics of the Titan. Damn, this is one big puppy : http://www.infomagic.net/~martince/wltruck.htm http://www.cyberbeach.net/~solonyka/LCRA/titan.htm http://www.sparwood.bc.ca/chamber of commerce/titaninfobrochure.htm It has a 16-cylinder 3300 horsepower locomotive engine. Empty, it weighs 260 tons, and can carry a total of 350 tons loaded for a total possible weight of 610 tons. It's 66 feet long, 25'7" wide, and 22'7" tall. That's a big Tonka Toy.
I just feel sorry for the dude that has to balance or rotate those things. Aaaaaahaahahahahahahahaha...
Anybody see the Jackie Chan movie where he is being chased around by a dump truck with tires just as big and he is climbing on the huge tires?
