Hey guys, im in my 2nd year in college but because of my financial issues I have to work and go to school (weekday mornings). Every semester it's 4 classes. 12 hours. Just wondering if you know any good companies or jobs to look into that you found fit for someone in college. Besides waiting tables...
have you tried career services at your college? a dude i used to work with went to the career services website for my university, said it wasnt that great looking, prob because no one uses it. found some job on there, making really good money, all that was required was an accounting background. dude majored in accounting for like 2 weeks, switched majors, but still put that on app and they took him.
you should try getting a job at the campus library. the pay wont be that great and it will be boring work, but its non-stressful, quiet and convenient. ideally, youll want a job with flexible hours, so you can schedule as many or as little hours as you want per week depending on schoolwork. also, if you're lucky your boss will let you do homework too.
be a server at a restaraunt. just today i made 210 dollars working a double. i give you i worked from 10 am to 10pm or so. its a long day but that beats quite a few hourly jobs with out a degree. so if you could fit in a couple of those on the weekend. and maybe one or two shifts a week you should be ok. on more thing though. ask around when you go apply and ask a few of the servers what they usually make. some places have better systems and you just simply make more money on average.
1) Go work graveyard shift for UPS/FedEx and load trucks. 2) Go work graveyard shift unloading 18 wheelers for Walmart. You will appreciate why you are in college and why you won't ever want to return to working those jobs again... Failing all that, find a job somewhat related to your field and work that.
Bartending. I'm back in school and I'm going to get into this. My buddy tends bar and makes a sh*t ton of cash. ~$50K-$60K a year. Granted, he's one of the managers, but his regular bartenders make more than I ever have, and I have a degree. Sad, I know.
i know you said besides waiting tables, but honestly man, that's the ideal job for a college student. you can pick up shifts whenever you want, and unload them fairly easy whenever you need time off. plus you generally have high school hostesses that are always looking for older maturer guys so you can hook up with them easily. 17 is legal in Texas isn't it?
I had a friend that worked at a Home Depot somewhere near the Clear Lake area and he said the company pays for his tuition and books. Don't really know much about his hours though. However, I can say I hardly see him.. Also I was getting some cash out of an ATM just the other day at a Valero and it said they were hiring and do tuition reimbursements. I have another friend who waits at a Barnaby's and she makes at least 150/day IIRC. I agree with whoever said waiting tables is probably best for students who needs fast cash and such with flexible days/hours.
Go to a sales office in any new home contruction subdivision and let them know you'd be willing to do odd jobs for the builders. You can usually get paid decently, learn a little business, and work very flexible hours. (especially if they are custom home builders) One of the things you can offer in certain counties is to put up and maintain silt fencing where that may be required along the street. Builders hate having to worry about it, but get fined if they don't do it, so if you were to offer up the service turn key, you could be as busy as you wanted. (I did this for a while in high school/college and made pretty good money)
I was a golf caddie at River Oaks and it was a great way to work 4 hours and get paid for a full day. I remember getting there around noon after class and still getting a loop in, than having a 100 bucks in my pocket and the night free. Plus the contacts I made were great.
I bartended for 9 years, 7 of them in college.....undergrad and grad school, then I continued to bartend 2 nights a week while working a regular job for 2 years and paid off my student loans with the bartending monies. Today, I am looking at buying a bar here in Austin and one in the UK (Tex mex would go huge there). I love the bar biz. DD
I worked at a Bank as a PT Teller. Usually they work around your schedule; and depending on your major you might be eligible for tuition reimbursement.
