i was looking for a slimmer digital camera. the one i have now is too wide and requires lenses so i was curious if anyone else knew they best reviewed around. want something to take with me to acl sept. 14-16 so i need it before then.
Casio Exilim is a smaller, slimmer camera that has decent reviews. Off topic: If you arrive late to shows at ACL and are in the back your best view will be from the tv screen. I've kind of been disenchanted with ACL and other big music festivals since its really hard to see the stage for alot of shows. That's why I'm skipping ACL most likely, and sticking with SXSW. If you are a fan of Grizzly Bear, Rosebuds, St. Vincent, Art Brut or Sparrow House there is a free after party show thrown by some blogs where those bands perform. RSVP begins tomorrow. I can post the link if anyone is interested.
The Sony T-series has been good for me. They have a folding internal lens, so you don't have to wait for the lens to come out of the camera before you can shoot. They also take great movies (640x480 @ 30 fps), which is quality that you won't find in some of the other small cameras. The newest one has 5x optical zoom, but you'll pay a small premium for that ($100).
whatever you do stay away from the Casio Exilim, I new the problems of it going in and thought they could be overlooked in favor of the super small form factor.. I ended up returning that horrible camera for the Cannon Elph, no amount of size difference could make up for how badly that Casio took pictures..
I just saw a camera commercial this morning. Something about touch screens on the camera and it looked pretty thin to me. I'll be sure to take note of the brand next time it comes on.
as far as ACL you can generally once the music starts movie very very close to the front. if you do it before the music starts will make whoever mad though.
Canon SD700IS and SD800IS are both sweet.. not sure if the 700 is still sold, but the 800 should be. Those are the last 2 models that I know of that had image stabilization (good for shaky hands).. not sure if they came out with another one in the last 6 months or so that has it.
this one looks pretty nice. its only a few months old. came out in may i think. i wonder how often canon updates there cameras. Canon Power Shot SD850IS
I have a Casio Exilim. I love it. My uncle has one, too. He loves his. They both take great pictures. Just my two cents.
It's not the same question, but does anyone have any experience with the Fuji S9000? I've been eyeballing it, and prices have really fallen on it recently.
My mom just bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K. I played around with it and really liked it. It has a 10x optical zoom, which is rare among the small cameras. I loved the huge LCD it has. It also has an image-stabilizing lenses and smart ISO function which could come in really handy when shooting at night. The only down side is that it's pretty expensive. It cost around 300 bucks.
oh hell yeah, they did upgrade.. I'd jump all over this if I didn't just get mine about a year ago. (edit: I got the SD700IS.. I now wish I had paid the extra $75 or whatever it was to get the SD800IS instead. And I definitely wish I could sell this and get this new 850IS for about $100 net, but I know that wouldn't happen)
Yes to the Canon recommendations (the IS line with Image Stabilization). I also read some reviews on the 750/800 models and I think I read that the 750 is more a wide angle lens, which I would prefer. But the IS is supposed to be very, very solid.
