Ok, so I errr....this person drives up to the apartment complex gate, punches in the code to the gate, gate opens. Doesn't drive in right away because person sees the residential list and stops to kinda read it. Feels that someone just drove up behind them but not for sure (nighttime). Kinda keeps looking but realizes the gate will close soon so starts driving into complex. Sure enough the gate starts closing as said person is driving into complex, that gate doesn't have a sensor to sense vehicles still in the way to keep it open. From the rearview mirror, sure enough there was a car behind that the gate closed on it, as it was driving up. While first driver was parking, second driver drove by and paused to give the evil eye to first driver. BTW, 2nd car was a dark BMW 5 series, older body style, so 1rst person knows what to look for if something happens. So, if you were 2nd driver, how pissed would you be and if you saw 1rst vehicle again parked all alone would you key it or dent it?
i'd have been pissed if the gate closed and i had to wait for somebody to open it....if he got in without any problems, he probably isn't mad, just curious what the hell you were doing holding up the line.
You're overreacting. I'd be plenty irritated with your lack of awareness, but not so much that I'd resort to vandalism. I'd have honked to get your attention to move your slow ass, but that's about it. All in all, I'd most likely have forgotten about it within a minute or two. Especially after I'd slashed your tires and peed on the door handles.
I wouldn't be pissed at all. If you don't know the code or you can't call someone to open the gate for you, what are you doing there in the first place? The gate is there for a reason. I used to hate it when someone piggy-backed me like that when I lived in an apartment. It's not my job to hurry up so you can get in. Open your window and punch the code yourself, you lazy b*stard.
I agree with this --- technically each person should be entering the key themselves anyway or why bother having a gate?
exactly, what's the point of having the gate if anyone and their momma can just roll on in. this reminds of that incident where 3 guys were coming home late from a night out to their apt complex. the building's door automatically locks to keep out non-residents. well, after they entered, they chatted for a few seconds near the door. then, someone starts knocking and signalling to open the door. they let the guy in, and suddenly he pulls a gun on all three of them. next thing you, all three are trying to wrestle the intruder, but not before he fires the gun a couple of times. ends of killing one of the 3. this was all caught on tape a couple of years ago.
I wouldn't be surprised if the guys who robbed Dunta Robinson at gunpoint piggy-backed someone like driver #2 did to get through the gate into his neighborhood. If you don't know someone to call to open the gate for you or you don't know the code -- GO AWAY.
Honestly, I would probably be mad at you if it happened to me, but it would be an embarassed kind of anger because I would know that it really was my fault in the end. So I probably wouldn't do anything to you.
I entirely agree with this, too. If you live there, you should be THANKFUL that the other person forced you to enter the code. It's people like that that keep your complex just a little more secure. All tenants should do that.
I takes this a step further: when I see someone trying to piggy-back me into my complex, I stop my car just inside the gate, so that they can't pull in, and wait for it to close right in front of them. Might be a jerky move to some, but if it increases the safety of my home even a little, it's worth it to me. My attitude is: if you're a resident, you should have the code and punch it in or use your gate remote/card. If you're a guest, call your host and have them buzz you in. If you don't fit into either of those situations, you're trespassing and need to be locked out.
If you did that to me, I wouldn't even be pissed. I'd consider it being a good neighbor. I used to do that when someone was trying to enter through the exit gate. I'd pull out and just sit there until the gate was closed. I got some dirty looks, but **** 'em. I can't believe no one has mentioned the Seinfeld episode that deals with this. You guys are slipping.
Yeah, I did this when we had a mini warehouse. Must be a genetic thing. It seems that people have hated he for it, too. People have honked at me and revved their engines... glared at me.... I didn't care.
