Should a fantasy league snake draft be an odd number of rounds? (Snake draft: Round 1: 1-10 Round 2: 10-1 Round 3: 1-10 etc.) I've never understood this -- Sportsline defaults to 17 rounds I believe. It gives the owners that pick first an extra round to pick players before the lower picks. At the end of the draft, the top waiver priority does go to the last pick (say 10th)... but that only lasts the first week. Does this balance it out in your view?
Not having an even number of rounds is absolutely terrible in my book. I've always been a staunch opponent of the odd number system. But depending on how deep your draft is, it could potentially make less and less of a difference. Still, I would always do even rounds.
I think that drafts should be an even number of rounds for the reason you state. However, I don't think it's that big a deal. The 2nd round of the draft is less important than the 1st, and the 3rd is less important than both, and on down the line. By the time you get to the last round, you're basically taking waiver-wire quality players. Very few keepers that low, and alot of easily replaceable parts. In football more than in other fantasy sports, since you'll likely swap out marginal players during the year (be it kicker or defense or whatever) based on matchups and bye weeks.
