I think this proposition is good for both parties. Dikembe doesn't have to go through the rigorous of an entire season...dude is farting dooke dust at his age. He can come back fresh around February and help lock down the paint in the second unit. Dikembe not playing now helps ease some of the cap pressures we're seeing right now. If the Rockets didn't want him, they wouldn't offer him anything, a la Big Jake. All he does is rebound and play defense...and he does it well. A big man (a REAL CENTER no less) is invaluable down the stretch. And if for some reason he doesn't come back, that is of no inconvenience to the Rockets. Allowing a few months of the season to go by will allow the team to shop around some players. If February rolls around and he is needed, they'll make room.
Maybe this is a good idea. If we cannot show title potential in the first half without Deke, well he wouldn't have made a big difference any way.
I think blocking shots and gobbling rebounds helps a team run. So what if Deke just initiates the run game and the other 4 beat the other teams guy down the floor. I think 1/2 a season is a great idea. Gives us more room to tune the roster the 1st half of the season, and saves Deke energy for when he is really valuable.
I really like this idea, it's sort of like saying to Deke 'We want to pay you 3.8 million for the season, but since you're getting old we want to do something that will benefit both of us: we'll pay you 1.9 million instead and you'll play for half a season, ie up to the playoffs.'
I dont see how deke cant fit into Adelmans game plan. on the defensive end, were not gonna have a huge change of game plan. adelman knows were fine on defensive end and deke has been a integral part of that. It's not like Motion offense like the suns game plan. where all they do is play coast to coast with alot of defense. itstill requiers defensive presence players. they had pollard thriving there. it's not like he is a spring chicken. even in he's prime he was'nt all that atheletic.in 02 the kings led the league in the least field goals allowed. Someone like deke is still gonna be a very handy player to have around. if adelman himself didnt think he would have any use for deke, we wouldnt be offering him a contract.
I don't see why won't Deke be able to play in Adelman's system. Sure he isn't like a Chris Webber or Vlade Divac, but he could still set good picks (remember, players coming off picks for easy jumpers) and I'm sure that despite what people always say Dikembe must have some variation of an offense, a dunk or layup say.
