Bskball is saying that NY is looking to get a big man pretty bad. Normally I don't put much into this site but this does make sense. If it is true, is there anyway we could get them to take Cato off of our hands? I don't care what we get back in return, just take him.

NY was trying to get rid of Ward earlier. I know that we don't need him, but he should be easier to trade & if not, his contract expires in 3 years, while Cato's expires in 5 years. This trade works, but I would be surprised if NY would take Cato.

Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to New York
    TOTAL: $6,048,000

New York trades: Charlie Ward $5,110,000 to Houston (plus Trade Kicker $814,500)
New York trades: Larry Robinson $590,850 to Houston
    TOTAL: $5,700,850

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Cato is worth sh*t we wont get nothing for him, I would trade him for nothing, hell ill even pay just to get rid him. He's got a killer contract and he is probably the worst starting center in the NBA. Forget about it the knicks got enough crappy players they dont need him (nobody does)

The Knicks might want Cato since Marcus Camby is always hurt.

Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to New York
Houston trades: Dan Langhi $465,850 to New York
    TOTAL: $6,513,850

New York trades: Travis Knight $3,600,000 to Houston
New York trades: Othella Harrington $2,475,000 to Houston
    TOTAL: $6,075,000

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Othella might not have the physical tools that KC has but at least he always plays hard. It would be great to have him back in a Rocket uniform. This also gets Langhi into a better situation.

    Rockets
    1. Francis/Norris/Brown
    2. Mobley/Torres
    3. Rice/Williams/Morris
    4. Thomas/Harrington
    5. Willis/Griffin/Collier/Knight

    Knicks
    1. Jackson/Ward/Eisley
    2. Houston/Anderson
    3. Sprewell/Langhi
    4. Thomas/Weatherspoon
    5. Camby/Cato/Spencer

Maybe we can con. . .errr. . .TALK them into taking Cato from us! We might have to eat Ward's contract, and I'm more then willing to do that. They might figure if they're going to be stuck with a long-term contract it might as well be the contract of a 7-foot athletic big man. I'd take Ward, and like what outlaw said get Knight and maybe Othella.

Hey! Outlaw, I think that was brilliant match just to unload Cato and definetely don't mind packaging Langhi too! I'm hoping that, they can get Othella back to Houston.

Those of you wanting to trade Cato away, what do you do when your only other big man is Kevin Willis?

... and don't say Eddie Griffin is a "big man" yet... and TheCat, shut up... don't even think about it. :)

lol Doc That's why if the Rocks could get New York to take Cato (which is easier then you realize, the Knicks are trying to get Ostertag and Reeves right now) then I would take Ward and Knight and see if Othella could be part of the package. Knight isn't exactly star material but he can be more productive given the same minutes. And if the Rocks could find any way to get Othella in that deal our work is done. Easier said then done I know. I think Ward would give us a nice veteran in the backcourt if the Rocks were forced to take him in exchange for those big men. That or just get anything kind of a big man to help us!

outlaw's proposed trade might actually benefit the Rockets. Of course, we all know what Othella would bring to the table, but don't discount the potential value Travis Knight could have on the Rockets. No joke. IF the remainder of his inflated contract (not as bad as Cato's, though) isn't too long, he could be a nice fit. He can block some shots AND he has a nice jumper. Those are two things Rudy wants from his center. At half the cost of Cato, it wouldn't kill the team if that trade happened.

I don't care what we get in return. If there is a chance to trade Cato, we HAVE to do it...just to get his sorry attitude away from the team. Seeing his lack of effort makes me sick. Let's get Ward, Othella, whoever the Knicks want to get rid of...hell, the only player I would NOT take for Cato would be Pippen...all others, no matter how bad they are, I would take them in a second.

Kelvin Cato for Othella Harrington and Travis Knight works capwise.

I think it would work for both teams.

Cato would find things slightly easier in the EC (right Mr. Olajuwon?). Plus the Knicks could move Camby to PF and bring Thomas off the bench. I think the Knicks would find this very appealing.

Othella currently makes $2.5m and has 4 seasons left @ about $11.1m (relatively cheap). But Othella has a a player option next summer and may decide that with Mo T returning, he's better off testing the FA market! This relieves the Rocks of just under $3m/year. Contrast that to the nearly $7m KC makes.

I don't see how the Rockets could lose. OT is cheap and even capable of some minutes at the 5 against certain teams!

Travis Knight has 3 seasons @ $12m remaining.

IMHO, Willis, Knight, OT & Collier are a good enough quartet to get the Rocks to the playoffs. DO IT NOW.

I hate to sound like a Scrooge, but no one is going to give up anything for Cato. We can't even give him away - and that's a fact.

The smartest option for the Rockets in my opinion is to cut the lazy b*stard. If he clears, we can use the money to sign someone later on who's actually worth the paper his contract is printed on.

You are not privy to Rockets personal moves, so you don't know if the Rocks "can't even give him away" - and that's a fact.

Cutting him does not clear up cap space. The contract still counts against the cap for it's duration and amount.

As far as for the rest of this thread: I would love to get Othella + contract filler for Cato. I don't really think trading for Ward would be worth it.

Maybe a third team can step in and take Ward leaving us with Big O and New York with Crapo. I'm sure filler would be involved, but I'd do just about anything to get rid of this guy. I had pretty high hopes for him this off-season, but when he came in out of shape that should have told everyone something about the character of this guy. It's time to bite the bullet and try and cut our losses with this pathetic piece of shiot!

Cato for Othella Harrington and Travis Knight?

    Hmmm...I'm intruiged....but there's only one problem:

    Next year:

    Centers:

Kevin Willis, Jason Collier, Travis Knight

    Power Forwards:

Mo Taylor, Eddie Griffin, Kenny Thomas, Othella Harrington

I know you have to be deep in the frontcourt, but how deep?

I fear for KT's future with the Rockets anyway, but with this trade, bye bye KT.

Actually, Marc Jackson said he wouldn't mind playing for the Knicks. And since the Warriors have no use for him, and they do need a point guard (Ward), look for this deal to get done as soon as Jax can be traded.
