not dunk is not soft as long as he made the shots.

"soft" is defined as a missed or a blocked sorryass layup by big guys, such as ,,err, Yao.

soft is such an over-used term.

soft to me is a guy who acts afraid to get hit, doesnt like to mix it up to accomplish his goal...whether its going after a rebound or hainvg to absorb contact to finish your shot.

dunking is NOT an indicator of softness or toughness.

outside the US, most players are fine with never dunking at all, as long as the shot goes. Thats why so many of them are better at bank shots than US players...when under or within 5 feet of the rim, they think layup or bank shot rather than "let me elevate for the nasty dunk to make that guy feel like a little b****".

    dunking is overrated.

Sorry Private, but I have to disagree with you here. Bron Bron and the Cavaliers would have been kicked out of the first round of the playoffs if they had faced the top 6 teams in the Western conference.

Kobe is a superstar. Dirk Nowitzki is a superstar. Carmelo Anthony is a superstar. So is Allen Iverson. But if their team faces a better team, there is just nothing you can do, full stop.

    Amen to that.

In team ball, dunking is icing on an already tasty cake. I don't care if someone makes a highlight reel dunk, unless he misses 15 out of the next 18 shots he takes... I wanna see people passing and taking easy shots so that they have the highest FG percentage in the league from playing as a team.

Scola may struggle a bit on the defensive end but he's fast enough that once he gets used to the speed and utilizes his quick first step on lateral movement he will be just fine.

You can tell he has it on his offensive post moves so he will definitely be able to do it on the defensive end.

Lordy, is it October yet!?!?! AAAAAAAH!

Its wonderful that he has a midrange shot but i hope he will also be the guy who can rebound and play defense, not another juwan or an upgrade. Someone who will be able to change the flow of the game. Very impressive video by the way, Scola should be great addition to our team.

I would hope he is an upgrade for us, a downgrade would be a disappointment. :) Somebody like Howard or Stoudemire would be nice.

The most beautiful sight I saw of Scola in these FIBA games so far was the 10-12ft bank shot. I (and probably many others) had one name running through my head at the time--Duncan--but isn't it funny fifteen years ago that would have been a standard skillset for a big man to cultivate. Now Duncan's the ONLY one who does that, and now we have banker #2. I think it will be refreshing if nothing else to see a smart-as-nails forward back in the league, and he should be able to out-produce Adelman's old European Divac, maybe even get to the level of Sabonis.

Yea dunking is overrated but it sure is entertaining to watch though. Without dunking, we might as well watch the WNBA for their excellent fundamentals.

Duncan is the only who uses regular...but he is not the only one....Kobe has been using more often in the last few years, while Yao uses it here and there. But Duncan is the only who has perfected...but there are few others who use it decently, but not great...and when I say a few you can count em on your hand.

you say that like fundamental basketball is a bad thing.

believe it or not, there are plenty of people that enjoy seeing a well-played, fundamentally sound contest between two teams.

It aint gonna make the ESPN highlight reels, but frankly scarlett......I dont give a damn.

I dont worship basketball at the ESPN altar. (and I can assure you Im not alone)

Scola carried his team tonight. He was living at the free throw line all night. I can see why he keeps forcing defenders to foul him. He cuts to the basket without the ball really well. He kept them in the game with going to the free throw line, then hits the dagger 18 footer. Nice.

Delfino was totally out of sync with their team. He's the main reason they fell behind by 14.

I think Scola did just ok today. He played well when it was most needed, though.

Delfino has that, sometimes it seems he is going to be the next Ginobili, and then he airballs two consecutive threes... He has the game, but he is so inconsistent...

Their teamplay sucked in the last few games they played against the Cavaliers. Just like their teamplay sucked last season against the Heat.
