So this means I should get my Naruto and Bleach episodes within 5-10 min rather than 30-45 min. WTF is wrong with the US!!?? Step your game up!! No wonder not a damn soul can find Osama. They should pay some Japanese FBI, they would get him by Labor Day.

Our infrastructure is here, as far as cables are concerned- You can get 23/6 on a cable modem- I've seen it. The cable companies just don't have any competition or reason to open up the pipe.

If I'm not mistaken japan still has one of the highest defense budgets in the world every year. Just because they're a pacifist nation doesn't mean they dont spend a lot on their military.

Makes a crappy version with established snob appeal and charges more for it so that you can show up the guys in the country club. (Except guns. Europe makes great guns.)

No, the US should pay China. It is cheaper. They can put a person at every square feet of land. Eventually, one of the people would spot Bin Laden.

I went ahead and looked upon Japan's military spending. They are 4th, behind the US, China, and France.

    http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/mil_exp_dol_fig-military-expenditures-dollar-figure

But, #27 per capita. With US 3rd, France 9th, and China 79th.

And #121 per GDP. With US 46th, France 47th, and China 28th.

So they spend a lot on defense because they have a strong economy. But their economic focus on defense is not very high. So, saying they have good things because they spend their money there instead of on armies has some legitimacy.

If I'm not mistaken, Japan can only spend about 1% of their GDP on their military (or their defense force...whatever you want to call them). I think this was part of the policies that were put into place after WW2, as was the policy to not invade other countries IIRC, but they sort of found a way around that. Of course, as mentioned, their GDP is so high that even 1% of it means that Japan spends more than most other countries.

Its easier to build infrastructure when everyone lives in an area the size of Florida.

The problem for the US is that we are to spread out and runing cable to everyone's house is expensive.

pretty much nails it on the head

i am sure in the future certain counties or cities may get an infrastructure upgrade but its unlikely. i know out here certain near coastal cities have the abilities to get fiber optical lines which rival the speeds of what japan and korea have. the initial costs will be high of course to make up for the costs of the new infrastructure. japan is what smaller or about the size of California? And Korea is smaller than that. A similar analogy would probably be like canada and the US or russia and the US in terms of physical size. But even those two countries have most of their population concentrated in a few areas unlike the US which outside of the upper midwest is pretty populated throughout.

having a 100mbit connection was fun and nice to have in college but my downloading days are well behind me as i am more than satisfied with my 6mbps dsl.

The American industrial base, technology, political and health systems may be falling behind, but we lead the world in obesity! Yay!

You need to expand your horizons beyond 1995 - present. lol. Some of the greatest scientists and thinkers of the past 200-300 years are from Europe and Asia. Hell even many of the greatest American scientists of the 20th century were foreign-born.

that and theres about a million more legal hoops to jump through here in order to tear up land and personal property in order to re-run better cables.
