I think it's lame too. I was just saying that it's hard to see how anyone could get through a Metroid game (the FPS's anyway) without help. I guess I should have made it more clear that I didn't use a guide or anything when I did get stuck...I just gave up instead lol. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy this game before I get home tonight. The thunderstorms should have a great atmospheric effect Spoiler Hopefully that offsets my 19" tv
They've given 2 Wii games (not counting VC releases) a 9.1 (RE4 and WarioWare). Now I would question why they gave those two games a 9+ and not the others, although I'm not sure if maybe they cited price or something else being a big factor (RE4, despite being not much different than previous versions, was budget priced), not to mention I didn't bother to look at who reviewed those games (some reviewers are harsher than others). It isn't like the other platforms are getting a lot of 9s either; the PS3 has 3 and the 360 has 7 (360 has been out for almost 3 years too, not to mention early games got the benefit of the doubt when it came to review scores). And FWIW, I'm not sure why they should have given Super Paper Mario a 9 or higher when the Metacritic score for the game is 85 (GS actually gave it a 8.8, higher than the average).
good point, warioware didn't deserve a 9, RE4...they gave it the SAME score they gave the gamecube version that was released 4 years ago. a game that literally is the same game is worth a 9.1 but a game that is BETTER than the original is worth 6 points less? their excuse obviously is that the new controls don't take anything away and add to it, and it's budget priced but come on. they can't say more of the same is a downside and knock points off when they're willing to give a game that is literally the same game the same score based off the same criteria. (I'm assuming they gave the original metroid prime at least a 9.1) a 9 might be reaching on paper mario, but it's a 9 in my book. zelda and metroid definitely are.
Where are you getting that score? They gave RE4 for the GC a 9.6 (and the PS2 version got a 9.3 if that means anything). Not sure if the budget price, the better controls, the added content (depending on whether you count the content that was missing from the GC version or the PS2 version), the better visuals, etc., is enough to warrant a 9.1 since I haven't played any of the versions yet (yeah, I suck). Another thing to consider is that one reviewer (Greg Kasavin) reviewed the first two versions, while a different guy reviewed the Wii version. Greg wasn't very forgiving on game scores IIRC, so I suppose it is possible that the new guy thought RE4 for the GC was like a 10 or something (probably wouldn't differ too much from the reviews for the game at the time IIRC). Just some things to consider, although I sort of understand where you're coming from. I'm not really going to bother to continue this discussion though since we're just arguing about why Gamespot basically didn't give some games a score that was .5 (or so) higher or lower. Kind of stupid really. As I said earlier, it is better to just check out the pros, cons, summaries, etc., within the review itself rather than getting wrapped up in the score (unless there is a huge discrepancy, although even then...). I'm sure if we got rid of all the scores, the reviews would probably seem the same (great conclusion to the MP trilogy, awesome boss battles, good controls, great art design, some small issues that may affect people to varying degrees, must-buy, etc.).
Yeah I'm definitely picking this up tomorrow. Great reviews, all the talk I'm reading is very positive, and they say the control scheme is excellent. One of the first 'epic' games for the system I'm looking forward to playing it. I consider Metroid Prime to be one of the greatest games I've ever played. Good to see the quality level is still high for the transition to the Wii.
I have only had my Wii for a couple days now, so take that into consideration when reading my take on this game. And I only played it for 2 hours last night. And I am not a competitive FPS player like seclusion is (i really prefer old school top down shmups). I made it past the first boss fight and onto I guess the second boss fight before I decided sleep would be good as who knows when the baby will decided to get up in the middle of the night and interrupt our precious sleep. But this is a great game. If you are on the fence on this one, I would pick it up as this title is a must own for any Wii owner. The wii controls definitely make this game unique and I think a step up for FPS as a whole. I own an xbox 360 too and have played Gears and COD3 and even EDF. But this is the most fun i have had playing a FPS. And I actually think I have better control over the game than I have had in other FPS I have played. Any FPS that comes out after Metroid Prime on the Wii has a lot to live up to. The action has been consistently good. A little easy at spots, but the 2 bosses I have tackled have been very very good and have presented a decent challenge. There has been enough exploration to make it "metroidy", but this has been more of a FPS so far. The graphics are definitely not as good as a top tier title on the 360 but they are good and as the reviews have said ad nauseum the art design is phenomenal and makes up for the Wii's short comings as far as horse power is concerned. Most of the Wii gestures integrate into the game well. The lasso/whip is great (I now really really hope that one day castlevania might make it on the wii in 3d form, but for once not suck so bad). Most of them don't seem so, and I hate using this word, so "gimmicky". Aside: I think that some of the "gimmicks" will become less gimmicky as people grow accustomed to the "Wii" way of playing. We are so trained to use our dual analog stick controllers that I think anything other than that now seems gimmicky. The biggest con that I have seen so far is the disguised load times when opening up doors. The doors definitely can be a little annoying. So far it hasn't been a huge problem, but I can see that it might be if I ever need to make a quick escape. I guess to sum this up. If you have a Wii, get this game. If you don't, find someone who does and give a go. I think it is now the premier title on the Wii.
Agreed with this statement. I never felt quite as immersed in the MP2 but the first MP was simply engrossing. I don't think I've ever had as much fun trying to get 100% in a game as I did in that one.
good luck with a thunderstorm offsetting the 19 incher. I never played echoes but prime was a great game. Beautiful graphics and great gameplay. I wonder if i still have it laying around somewhere...might need to get back on it if ihave free time. Im excited about getting this game but i gotta finish RE4 still. I've barely touched it the last 5 or 6 weeks. I know im close to the end and it is an awesome game (never played the first version) but i guess i got sidetracked. I also want to get on madden 08 as well as metroid...then manhunt in october, SSB and mario a month later There just wont be enough hours in the day
So I put about 4 hours in today...and yeah, it is pretty damn good. Quality level strikes me like the first Metroid Prime did. I wasn't a big fan of Echoes, but Corruption definitely is just as good as the first Prime. Controls are outstanding, too. Very responsive. It takes a little to get down, but once you do it is very smooth. Those that felt a little restricted by Prime's control scheme will feel more at home with the new game. It has more freedom like a traditional FPS but still feels like Metroid. Boss fights (I've been through two) are great. And it even ties a few things into the old Metroid classics. Between this, Bioshock and Madden I have to find a way to sleep.
i've used strategy guides in the past, so nothing against them, but i think the whole point of metroid is the exploration. a guide really cheats the experience of a metroid game. prime was an amazing game, never played echoes, and don't have a wii to play this one. would love to try it though.
