All ready to get another guitar that I didn't really need this weekend. Pristine 20 year old Rickenbacker Re-issue Rose Morris 1993 It played like a dream, and would have sat nicely next to my 360. I could even have done my Pete impressions (minus the smashing it through the grill of my speaker cabinet part). After agreeing to meet today to make the exchange, the owner called me late last night to tell me he couldn't part with it. Too sentimental. I know another one will come along one day, but it sucks... I'd built up hope all weekend long.
It depends on condition... market value for the reissues is about $1300-$1700. This one was selling for less ($1k even), and that's why I jumped on it. I'd hang onto it until it's at least another 10 years old and baby the heck out of it. You don't usually see 20 year old guitars in that condition. There's another Pete Townsend limited edition (less than 500 guitars total) that Rickenbacker put out that you occasionally see for $3-5k, and the ones from the early 60s are probably much more than that now (close to $10-15k)? Most 60s vintage Rickenbackers go for anywhere from $3-5k, but the rarer models jump way up there. Nothing close to what Strats and Les Pauls go for, but I'm not as big a fan of those as I am the Ricks.
For what it's worth, a few years ago I saved the picture of your geetar to my computer to my "Music" folder of "My Pictures." For my screensaver, I use a random scrolling of photos from the "Music" folder. When your geetar pops up, even if I'm across the room, I always do a double-take. I'm not even a big Ric fan (I'm hardly Dr. J when it comes to the size of my hands, but the neck is too small for my tastes), but it's such a gorgeous guitar, and I can practically hear the chime or the chunk emanating from it. At the very least, thanks for the Pete picture.
