What's up guys... just wanted to start this thread in order to get a little advice/input. I plan on moving to Houston sometime in the next 2 weeks so I'm currently looking for a place to live and work. As far as finding a place to live I'm looking to spend no more than $1000 for a 1/1. I've been looking in a few areas, mainly Midtown, Uptown/Galleria, and Downtown. Just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions/places that I should look at that would be a good place to live. I wanted to live close to or on the rail line but frankly I would live anywhere that was a good value (price:sq feet) and relatively safe. As far as the job hunting goes that has been more difficult. I graduated in May and have been looking for work since then (albeit not seriously until this past month). Right now the thing killing me is that I lack work experience as I didn't hold down a job/internship during college because I was busy with other things. My background is in Advertising and Government and so far I've been looking to work for an advertising agency or even intern somewhere. Have gone on 3 interviews but so far no offers. If anyone has any leads / suggestions that would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading this long post KO40A
no it hasn't. but 59 is an awesome place to live. especially around hillcroft. i don't even go there in the day time.
One warning if your looking for a place in H-town, watch out for those people who agree to your offering price only to renege on their promise, those bastards.
wow someone isnt over a little something.....i remember that story.....damn that must have really hurt you!!! i would have been upset too though. The other guys are being funny though stay away from the southwest if you can help it, its DRUG MURDER CITY
I lived by 59 in the Southwest for a couple of years. I found it to be quite safe. If you could find one near Richmond instead of Westheimer that would be good. Not nearly as bad on traffic and yet still close to the strip joints.. since the board seems to be big into that. I don't know much about midtown.. but I would think that it would be a little pricey. You can also try applying to a television station and see if you can work in their ad department. I knew someone who worked at the ad dep. for a while and it wasn't too bad. Very busy, but not too bad. There are a couple of TV stations down 59 in the Southwest side and lots of radio stations. So if you're into that stuff, that would be a decent fit. At least for starters.
Ok, figured I'd mix things up and give you a serious reply. If you're considering uptown, there are a couple apartment complexes near richmond and the loop that would be in your price range. One of them I know is called the Walden/Galleria Oaks, and I think a 1 bedroom runs about $800. There is also a newer (nicer) place right next to it and I have a friend that works there in the leasing office.
No more than $1,000? That will be easy. I like Memorial the best, you are close to downtown, the park, and there are plenty of jogging areas. But it costs the most Midtown is nice too but you will encounter a lot of bums. I currently live in Med Center, because it is really cheap for a similar sized apartment, and the location is still good. I couldn't justify paying $300 more to move to a smaller apartment in Memorial.
There's a ton of new developments north of Westheimer between Montrose and Midtown that you could look at, but look closely to be sure they're a quality build first - a bunch were made on the cheap. Museum District has a few nice diamonds in the rough and can be a fantastic location. Evan
