What's even more remarkable is that they scored all of their runs in only 4 innings - 5, 9, 10, & 6 runs.
There's no such thing as running up the score in baseball. Did you forget that 7 run 9th inning with 2 outs against the Pirates a few years ago when Wagner was pitching? It was part of a double header and Castilla hit like 4 home runs. That game essentially cost us the playoffs. Ever since that incident, I told myself you can never have too many runs. And it's not like you're showing up the opponent. You hit what they give you. You can't compare hitting a grand slam in the 9th adding four runs to your score to dunking a ball on your opponent with 6 seconds left when you are already up by 10. They are two different things. There is no time limit in this sport, and the game isn't over until you get your 27th out. So no, this isn't classless by any means. I watched this game (I'm not a Rangers fan, I was just at a pizza joint), but you might want to check out the score in the 6th inning. My logic is, if the Rangers can score 25 runs in 3 innings, why can't the Orioles do the same?
It amuses me that Wes Littleton got the save because he went the requisite three innings in a 30-3 game.
Looks like a football score. I can't wait till one team in the NBA just goes CRAZY and scores around 170 points, beating the record.
Actually, that was in 2001 and the Astros made the playoffs. Also, I believe it was Mike Jackson who got the first two outs and then the Pirates started hitting...Eventually Wagner came in and gave up the winnning run. It, too, was the first game of a doubleheader and the Astros won the second.
Did anybody hear Tim Kurkjian's (sp?) reaction to this game?? His voice was cracking so much that the Baseball Tonight guys were making fun of him later on in the show! What's amazing is that the Orioles have been a major thorn lately to both the Red Sox and the Yankees. They have been playing some good ball. Cabrera in his last start pitched like 6 or 7 scoreless innings against the Yankees of all teams. For them to get pounded like this, especially by last place Texas is a shocker.
Can somebody tell me the equivalent of this score in basketball terms? I have no idea how scores are kept in baseball.
Vamos Los Astros, I can't doubt you. It must've been another more recent instance where we blew a save that large that cost us a game and essentially the playoffs.
An MLB team scoring 30 runs in one game is about the equivalent to a JVG coached NBA team scoring 100 points.
For a lost cause season as the rangers are in, a good thing to happen to them to remind the people in DFW that they do have a baseball team...
