His point was that if Stevie is playing the 2 that would mean tmac is at the 3 which would cut Battiers minutes I do not really see this happening but possibly.
This is great to hear. I just hope we can get rid of Rafer and trade Luther (not thrilled about that but there is no room for him) for a big man and/or draft pick.
I think that you're the only one. Aaron Brooks is certainly also not a better all around point guard. You can argue that Aaron Brooks may be the better offensive player, but not better all around. Stevie still has it in him, just look at the end of the season last year for evidence. Just like Mike James said, there's never too much talent. Aaron Brooks isn't ready to play all of these minutes in all likelihood as well, come playoff time you'll see what I mean.
I hope people aren't getting too excited about Brooks contributing this season. When it's all said and done, he's still a #26 rookie draft pick whom Morey repeatedly said will not likely contribute this season. In addition, being a rookie means extended minutes will only get him to hit the rookie wall mid-season. Why do that when (A) the regular season doesn't matter for this team and (B) we have James/Francis/Head and possibly Alston at the same position? My personal best-case-scenario for Brooks is to bring him along slowly. If he does well in practice, then give him minor minutes mid-season and if everything goes well, he'd be our backup PG come playoff time in favor of James or Francis. Whoever can't cut it.
Morey took SF on because he was a low risk - high reward. In otherwords, SF will either rise to the occassion or completely tank due to his knees, not passing or attitude. However we are not locked into an expensive contract so either way it's no skin off our teeth. Wells is in the exact same boat with an equal chance as SF of going either way. People are exited about AB because of his potential even though it is untested at this point. All signs are positive though. You never know how things will turn out. We might need his speed against Utah. If I were drafting a fantasy team, I would pick up SF if he was available in the mid but more likely later rounds. I would wait to see how AB does and pick him up as I don't believe he will see nearly the time as Conley or Law.
After knowing brook's performance againt those great players, I'm officially convinced that hes gonna be a great player in this league. I wish we can undo the mike james trqde.
You're not the only one who thinks it's not such a great move as others here made it out to be. Francis may well be done, or he might still "have it" and has "matured", but like what managerrobert said, a leopard never changes its spots (not stripes ), and from what I inferred in the Jim Rome interview, he's still overrating himself like the old Steve Francis. Francis is not a bad player by any stretch of imagination, but he is a bad decision maker. As a POINT GUARD, I would argue that from what I've seen and read about Aaron Brooks, he's definitely got the tools to be better than Francis, if not already better. This kid looks like he knows how to run a team, and might be more of a "true point guard" than Mike James is and ever will be too. I'd expect Mike James to be our starting point guard, with AB backing him up by season's end. Alternatively, if we do retain Alston, then it's entirely possible that he stays as the main backup. The only spot where I see Francis truly contributing is if he swallows his pride and either start at SG and share major minutes with Battier off the bench, or he comes off the bench as the 6th/7th man with Bonzi Wells at the SG/SF spots.
his size is a disadvantage but looking over potential pg's, i'd say post-defense is about the last thing i'd look at. if he can stay in front of his man, rotate, and play within the team, he'll be just fine. his offense is obviously nba-ready.
Nope. I'm right with you and believe that while signing francis for cheap isn't a mistake, it's a mistake for people to think he'll play big minutes and contribute a lot. I think he's washed up and there's no way he should be playing ahead of brooks. Francis is an 8th man type player in the league now, but some people are living in the past and refuse to see that.
ive said it before and i'll say it again. brooks will be starting ahead of francis/james by midseason.
no, luther and snyder will backup t-mac. luther is a much better shooter than francis. i really dont see where francis will fit since brooks and mike james are better point guards than him.
Actually you will see bonzi play as a 2 guard. e'll try to use he's low post on the smaller 2 guards of the league. thats what adelman did in sacramento with bonzi and he'll do the same here. the biggest loser will be battier in all these. he's minutes will go down if bonzi comes into training camp inshape and motivated. a healthy motivated bonzi> battier
Brooks is gonna be a younger version of boykins. he'll never be a starter matireal, but he'll be a excellent sparkplug of the bench for us for many, many years to come.
