what a sad story. I really feel for the guy and used to root for him during his career ... Does any one know if this was suicide ???
I don't think anyone knows, which probably means no one ever will. Some people are speculating, but in any event it's just sad.
Eddie was one of my favaorite players when we got him. There were concerns before the draft, but I always hoped he would pull it together and realize the tremendous potential he had. Its such a sad story. People die in sports all the time, but this one really hit home for some reason. Maybe its because he was so troubled. Anyway I hope he has found peace. RIP Eddie.
This is a very sad story and I've always thought when he got release from the team a few years ago that his future wasn't going to be bright at the time I thought it would be a good thing for the team to give him a second chance and help him get his life together. The problem was we cut him loose like it was nothing. But its not a time to dwell on the past we all focus on Eddies mistakes but we never focus on the causes of mistakes tough love dont work for everybody I've always said. The weird part is I called a friend of mines and left a messege on his phone asking him did he hear what happen to him. He call me back to see what happen and him response was he was not suprized by what happen. Something to think about.
Actually, surprisingly, Eddie was a pretty outgoing and down-to-earth individual. I work at a bank in North Houston where Eddie came in a few times over this summer, and he was real open and friendly with me or whoever else spoke with him, never showing to be cocky, self-centered, or any hint of a bad personality that many athletes with troubling issues assumedly have. Just a nice guy, I'd say. One time I asked him if he wanted to come back and play for the Rockets, and he replied, "That's all I could wish for, man." It's such a shame, I join you guys and all others who care in sadness at this shocking tragedy. May God bless him and his family. <img src="http://grafika.rockets.e-basket.pl/tapety/griffin01_800x600.jpg"
Though I don't doubt for a second that he was suicidal (or, at least, depressed enough to do something to himself), I doubt it was suicide. Even drunk, the idea of trying to off yourself by either smashing yourself to bits on contact, or burning to death seems a bit much. If anything, I'll bet he fell asleep at the wheel while drunk. Talked to him once, briefly, a nice guy. Still remember thinking how remarkable it was for Houston to turn three middling first-rounders into a player considered by some to be the most talented in the 2001 Draft. Watching him last year, you just couldn't believe this guy was as young as he was, and once was as talented as he was.
The NBA killed this man. What lessons he should have learned in life were replaced with merciful get-out-of-jail free cards and overly leniant people who looked the other way when he was screaming for help. If Griffin were just a regular joe, maybe someone would've had an easier time recognizing he needed help instead of dismissing him as some disgruntled millionaire. My two cents. What a sad story. I like Eddie Griffin.
