There is no reason to think any superstar would make a good GM, Jordan included. On the other hand, being a good player wouldn't bar the possibility either. My guess is Jordan, Dream, and Barkley would all make poor GMs, but who knows.

Hakeem has much too much responsibility acvtively participatiung in his MULTIPLE business ventures. He is diverse, folks.

I can see both him and to a larger extent Charles seperately investing in an NBA franchise, though. In that case, Charles would be involved far more than Hakeem.

I take a back seat to no one in my shameless flacking for Charles Barkley on this board. But even I must admit he'd be an abysmal GM. There's not an ounce of discipline in him.

I'd talk to Kenny Smith or Eddie Johnson before I'd talk to Chuck.

yeah. have you guys seen his building off Beltway 8 going south? It says THE OLAJUWON GROUP in big letters.

How about Clyde as GM? He was able to recruit George Williams, who looks like a future NBA talent and he tried hard to get Rashard Lewis. I don't see him coaching at UH for many years.

Anybody who has not done grunt work as a scout, asst coach etc would be starting from square one in running a franchise as a GM. Jordan might be the man in Washington, but undoubtedly has a strong support group to help in the early stages.

Considering the poor decisions made in Wahington over the past several years, Jordan or CB4 can/could do better.

I do have to give MJ credit for taking on a far bigger basketball challenge than Phil did.

as far as players holding management positions you guys might not know that much about how educated Hakeem is on management issues. I don't Hakeem or Charles personally but I have read their autobiographies (which I believe gives the best insight to one's life and personality) and Hakeem was very frank and intellectual in his basketball knowledge concerning management. I think he would be an excellent management head. He would do a hell of a lot better job than Wayne Embry and Wes Unseld if you ask me.

Charles Barkley also would be a good GM not Prez. (using my book logic) He knows a lot about player movement and how it works cause he himself was involved in a few deals. But he wouldn't fit the recruitment image since he hates young players.

The best person that could fill a management position that is a player in my opinion would be Muggsy Bogues. His book was the best I have read that was wrote by a player and his knowledge of players and the way organizations work is quite astonishing. I would really tout him as a President of Basketball Operations.

Well in my books .... Isiah Thomas is the man when it comes to recent former superstar players who should be in the management position.

He has the heart, the smarts and the cojones to stand up to any and all adversaries. He is so smart he scares people (that is, the suits and players' agents alike). Don't let his quiet, Walter "Sweetness" Peyton-esque voice and easygoing public demeaner fool ya. He is a barracuda in the boardroom, and a very respected and knowledgeable court man.

When Hakeem retires, would you be for or against Hakeem stepping into a position such as "head of basketball operations" for the Houston Rockets...where he answers only to Les Alexander and has the final say on all basketball related decisions. I don't know enough about Hakeem to really know anything, but what do you'all think?

When Hakeem isn't humbling everyone else on the court with his moves, he conveys no authority whatsoever. And I've never seen anything from him that suggests he's got any talent as a group strategist. So I think he'd be absolutely terrible in a management role.

A smart ex-point guard with physical skills one-hundredth of Hakeem's would make a much better coach or GM.

How about making Charles Barkley Head of Basketball Operations for the Houston Rockets?

Jordan's Wizards versus Barkley's Rockets sounds good to me. I think Rudy will move up once his coaching career is over. By the way, How old is Carroll Dawson?

Charles Barkley would be a better GM than Hakeem Olajuwon. After retirement, I don't see Hakeem having anything to do with basketball. Now that Jordan's back, It would be awesome to see the Chuckster calling the shots. Maybe these young guys can get him a ring as a GM. If Chuck was named GM, I don't know where Rudy would fit with the team. I don't think Rudy wants to be a scout. And what about Carroll Dawson? It could work since Charles Barkley is a good guy.

Just thought someone should point out that Chuck has a degree in Finance. He might be better equipped to massage the cap than Dream. He would have more fun and make more money as a broadcaster, though. I expect to see him go to TBS/TNT and then move to NBC after a few years.

I would have to vote for Vernon Maxwell.

Agent: "Well, Mr. Maxwell, we think you should be prepared to pay fair market price for . . ."

VM "I tell you what, &#*%(#(%(, why don't you take your &^(^%$*% *%*^%*% and put &^&()^#$^%$%%*& *&&%&*(*^( into your &%&(*%(&#%."
