I know for a fact that this is one of the worst. Jennings is awful. He sucks so bad. Willy T could pitch better than him
next to puma, willy t was my favorite astro and now there is nothing to show for that trade. It makes orlando magic management look like geniuses . ah, we can't even offer him arbitration anymore.
With the Jennings trade and the recent draft fiascoes, Drayton will be ridiculed if Purpura is back next year as GM. He's clearly been promoted to his level of incompetence. I'd say it's 99% Purpura is gone and 75% Garner is fired. When it comes to game management and strategy, Garner is one of the worst I've seen.
If only you were Drayton... I'm sure Purpura will be back next year making even worse moves and trades. UGH!!!
If Jennings's velocity comes back up and he's back to normal (read: pre-Astros definitely) next year, things could be resolved.. at least people could feel better about the deal. Assuming we re-sign him at a decent price.
I think the Stros are lying. In todays Hou Chron Jennings is quoted for feeling fine and healthy. So when did he get hurt? Not last night if so he still played. I think management is tired of him and put him on the shelf with a fake injury.
we wont know unless jennings comes out and says so... which would be bad for him since he will be a FA and it will prove he just sucks at pitching which means no $$$ for him. the astros resign him meaning he really was hurt and they think he can bounce back to old form. i think he is hurt but didn't tell anyone and tried to pitch through it but he finally gave up and finally said something. but this also proves the astros, mainly purpura, sucks at trading.... hellooooo damaged goods. he probably got hurt earlier when he was pressuring himself to pitch outside of his ability and ended up changing his mechanics and hurting his arm.
Rule #1 of baseball: pitchers never admit when they're hurt. Sampson initially hurt his elbow in late June... it's why he's on the DL now. I sat and watched Sampson deny time after time in July when reporters asked him if he was hurt, only to have to shut it down weeks later. You can't take statements like that at face value. It's clear something is/was wrong with Jennings; you don't go from a 3.78 ERA in 200+ innings at Coors to becoming by far the worst starter in the National League all in one year with the same stuff. Even if last season was a bit of a fluke, he had a 5.00 ERA the season before when Coors was really bad. That's nowhere remotely close to this year. Question is, will this surgery fix whatever the problem is? I'm not so sure. He's at the age now, almost 30, where pitchers don't seem to regain velocity if they lose it. There are some exceptions, but for the most part, good pitchers either have average or better velocity and/or average or better control. Jennings has poor velocity as well as subpar control, and that's a bad combination. At this point, I hope he's pitched his last game with the Astros. Someone's going to give him a decent contract in the offseason based on his 2006, and assuming 2007 was a fluke based on his elbow. If I'm the Astros, I don't take that risk.
Personally I think Jennings sucks and I don't want him back. The trade was terrible from the beginning. Just another mistake made by the front office. Sad thing is, Jason Hirsh outpitched him with a broken leg. A freaking broken leg.
That's just asking to mess up your career. I understand these guys are competitors but is it really worth hurting your team and possibly jeopardizing your career?
