i was like by my drive way. why are cops so mean? i never got pulled over before, never even got a parking ticket before. and there is a big downhill connected to the road. the cop was waiting by the downhill. he made it sound like, there is a first time for everything. i was hoping i would get a warning  now i have to pay $84. and 3 points. they are so mean. i am going to cry now :(

should i go to court to fight it? i want to keep my record clean :(

Take defensive driving to keep it off your record.

My sister got pulled over in front of our driveway one time...the cop was following her for a few minutes before that and said she was speeding down a previous road. She got off with a warning though.

I'm pretty sure you can take defensive driving and get the ticket off your record.

$84?? What is that, the fine for littering?

You're going to spend almost twice that in court costs and the cost for the defensive driving. A ticket that minor probably won't even raise your insurance any, if you really have a clean driving record. Save yourself the hassel, pay the ticket, and save the defensive driving class for a real traffic violation...

for speeding. he was waiting by the road entering the big downhill. and at the bottom of hill, i take a left turn and my house is 3rd one. so i basically stopped in front of my house. he said speed limit is 35, which i didn't see for probably 3 to 5 blocks of the road. and i thought it was 40 and i told him that. he said i was going for 48, but on the ticket he said i was going for 45. i don't know how everything works. just pissed that i am on record for nothing.

I would just take defensive driving. After successful completion of the course your record is expunged after three years and it is no longer on your permanent record.

go to the courthouse tell them you want to take defensive driving and they will say ok... you pay the court fee ~$90. then i went to blockbuster which is 40 bucks for the defensive driving take home course watch the dvd's take the test online... pass. all done no ticket on record.
if you take defensive driving online course i think you have to read, instead of watching a movie.

well, that's more money than the ticket itself :D what happens if i just pay for the ticket? how long before i get my points back? 12 months? if i go to court and obey the decision and go on to take the defensive driving class, i would pay more for money. what else is it good for? complete clean record? isn't that the same as pay the ticket, wait for 12 months, points back, clean record? or the violation stays with you unless you take the class?

Don't bother with DD. Dress nice, go to court, tell them you want a trial by jury. Be prepared to get the date reset once or twice and then you are off the hook. No record, no money spent. Just time...

Not every state offers defensive driving. Minnesota is one that doesn't, but I am not sure about Wisconsin. My wife and son have both had traffic tickets reduced to being a public nuisance (a 5th degree misdemeanor) so there is no record of it on your driving record. The fine was minimally more.

The officer wrote you up for 45 instead of 48 because ti is generally less of a fine for 10 mph over the spped limit than 10+ mph over the speed limit. In other words, he was making it easier on you.

I got pulled over in MY ACTUAL DRIVEWAY after turning onto my street. The officer THOUGHT my license tags were expired - they weren't. I just got my new insurance, which, unfortunately wasn't in my truck (it was 50 feet from me in my house). He would not allow me to get it to show him proof of insurance.

He then said that my brake light was out - I had no clue and it was four months to my next inspection - and I'd be ticketed for that and not showing proof of insurance.

I bought a new brake light for $3 and replaced it and showed my insurance in court. The whole thing cost me $98 ($90 for court fees, $3 for the brake light and $5 for parking) and he could've just given me a warning.

Court fees should be dropped in the instance that the ticket is dropped! There should be a new law. If someone gets a frivolous ticket, hires a lawyer, and gets it dropped, the officer should be forced to pay for 50% of the lawyer fee from his own pocket. Never gonna happen though. Ill start a utopia in west Texas somewhere.

so it sounds like, if i go to court fight it, i may end up paying more money? wow, what kind of system is this? :D well, the ticket is only $84 and 3 points i think will be off after 12 months (since 12 points in any 12 months period is suspension). not that i will get in another ticket situation, but after 12 months, the points doesn't matter. so it all comes down to, should i pay the ticket and forget about it, or pay more (i really did speed now that i think about it). i guess the only question is, will it be on the record, either way? or off the record either way?

Hey yuantian I read up a little on some of you laws in Wisconsin and from my understanding your permanent driving record or as the state of Wisconsin calls it your "driving abstract" should be cleared in five years. Most driving infractions in Wisconsin will only have a 5 year lifespan on your record. The only infractions that stay on it (your record) longer are the more serious infractions (which I am going to assume doesn't include minor speeding tickets) that deal with alcohol related crimes and so on and such. Those kinda infractions will stay on your record for a lifespan of 55 years before they are dropped.

All in all what ever you decide to do you can expect you driving record to be cleared in 5 years time. Hope this helps.
