Do we want him? I doubt that the Wizards would take Cato in a trade. However, they might consider Walt. My only question is, if he can't crack the pathetic Wizard's lineup, why not? Is he not as good as we thought or, are they not using him properly? Would he fit in here? Cato's stats are better than White's. Any thoughts?

White, Others Discussed in Trade Talks

    By Steve Wyche

The Wizards have held trade talks with several teams regarding center Jahidi White and several other players, sources with knowledge of the situation said. Washington has talked to the Chicago Bulls about acquiring disgruntled forward Charles Oakley but those talks have been fruitless, one source said.

The Bulls do not want to send Oakley to Washington, in part because of General Manager Jerry Krause's strained relationship with Michael Jordan, the Wizards' former president of basketball operations who still is consulted in personnel decisions. Oakley is in the last year of a contract that pays him $7.3 million this season, which would mean the Wizards would have to trade several players to make a deal, which is unlikely, the source said.

Though the Wizards aren't in a hurry to transform their young roster, they are willing to move nearly every player, a league source said. Washington ideally would like to get a big man and, or, a rangy small forward.

White is the most commonly mentioned player because the burly center is viewed as a needed commodity by several teams, particularly those in the Western Conference.

The Phoenix Suns have been one of the most aggressive teams after White, the source said, but they don't seem to have anything overly attractive to offer. The Seattle SuperSonics also expressed interest. White is unlikely to be moved any time soon and if he is moved, he likely would be part of a package, the source said.

White is a second-year, base-year compensation player, meaning that because of salary-related issues the Wizards could only acquire a player or players whose salary is two-thirds of White's $4.3 million salary this season.

White signed a five-year contract before last season worth up to $25 million if he reaches all of his incentives. Washington likely would wait to see whether injured center Brendan Haywood (torn left thumb ligaments) responds positively once he is cleared to play before engaging in serious trade talks regarding White, a source said.

    Bucks Suspend Caffey

Milwaukee Bucks forward Jason Caffey was suspended for last night's game for missing the team flight. He also was fined a game's salary of roughly $50,000.

    Turkey Drive

Guards Chris Whitney and Richard Hamilton will stage a Turkey Drive at the Calvary Food Bank in Northwest Washington today, distributing 400 turkeys to the needy. Teammates Kwame Brown, Bobby Simmons, Haywood and White also will take part in the charity event.

Jahadi White has less instinct that Cato. I wouldnot trade him for Cato straight up even with Cato's longer and worse contract...

Walt for Hidi would be worth it. Hidi is a muscler, boards well, pretty quick on his feet, and would be worthwhile simply to throw at Shaq. He's like a bigger Anthony Mason with very limited offensive skills.

If Chicago will get over their ego problems, here's a trade that works. The question is, is it one that benefits all 3 teams?

Houston trades: Walt Williams $5,000,000 to Chicago
Houston trades: Jason Collier $1,280,040 to Washington
    TOTAL: $6,280,040

Chicago trades: Charles Oakley $7,526,750 to Washington
Chicago trades: Brad Miller $4,400,000 to Houston (plus Trade Kicker $690,000)
    TOTAL: $11,926,750

Washington trades: Etan Thomas $1,493,046 to Houston
Washington trades: Jahidi White $4,413,375 to Chicago (BYC Value $3,310,031)
Washington trades: Tyrone Nesby $3,260,000 to Chicago
    TOTAL: $9,166,421

    TRADE ACCEPTED

You are dreaming. Chicago would never make that deal. Brad Miller is the only person on that team who is worth a damn. Bring back the big dog THOMAS HAMILTONNNNNNNNNNNN:) :) :)

I'd love to get Etan Thomas. I think he'll be a solid player, a good shot-blocker with good offense if he gets time. I'd definitely love to get White on this team. I think White is much better then Cato. I don't know what's wrong with Cato, maybe he just sucks, but White isn't that bad. Jordan isn't really giving him that much of a role because he doesn't fit his system. Jordan loves jump shooting big men, which is the reason he slipped Laettner into the starting spot. We need depth up front with production. I envisioned Cato and Willis producing, now I would take White and Willis up front. White is doing a solid job in limited time. HIs career average is 19.8 minutes of action he is averaging 7 ppg 6.6 rpg and 1.2 blocks per game. I think it wouldn't be to much to expect him to push that up to 10 ppg and about 7 or 8 rpg. I don't know how much money he is making though and how long his contract is, but he is an upgrade over Cato right now. I'd rather get some of the other big men like Thomas, but any quality big man to pair with Willis up front would due right now. I just noticed that White is in the 2nd year of a 5 year deal so I'm apprehensive of a deal like this. I just want a decent big man to get on the boards and eat minutes at the center spot along with Willis.

Chicago likely will not trade Oakley simply because his large contract is expiring this offseason. It would have to be a great deal in Chicago's favor for them to pull the trigger.

Hamilton, give me a break. He'll never see Rudy diagram another play. As for Chicago, maybe you've forgotten about a guy named Eddie Robinson. I hear he's not bad.

If Chicago decides to trade Oakley, that would signal to me that they're giving up on this season. Their play thus far tends to indicate that the players have already given up. By trading away Oakley & Miller, they could play both Curry & Chandler equal minutes, until one of them decides to step up & take the position or they could try Chandler at the PF position. They appear to be a guaranteed lottery team again this year, so what do they have to lose? If I were them, I'd see which one pulls ahead of the other or if Chandler can play the PF position. If Chandler can't play the PF spot, then I'd trade the one that falls behind by the end of the season, for some key players to fill the need positions.
