What programs are there to capture sound from video files so you just have the audio clip and not the video? I mean from any type of video file, WMV, AVI, DIVX, Flash, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Is VirtualDub OK? but I think FLASH would not be compatible, but you can try AVI and WMV

almost any video program - consumer or professional - will allow you to export the audio from any imported video.

most audio programs will allow you to extract audio from video as well, as long as the video is in a supported format.

You might try out Magix consumer video program. It is a pretty powerful program for a cheepy and will allow you to extract audio from almost any video format you might encounter.

another solution is something I do every now and then - get you a stand alone cd recorder and a spdif equiped sound card. The cd recorder will clock through the spdif cable from your soundcard and you can reimport the cda in order to edit, etc.

no conversion taking place and you capture the audio in a format that is friendly among apps.

I have this on my desktop already. How do you use it for that function?

It records the sound, it doesn't really "extract it" but it might work for what you need.

Hit the red button in Audacity to record then play the video file. It will record the audio. (check the Audio I/O preferences if it doesn't record anything). Then you can edit the file as needed then export as a wav file.

Oh, so it works like a tape recorder? That's not exactly what I wanted.

Take a look at Magix Movie Edit Pro.

It's cheap and will do what you require. Imported video automatically has its audio extracted and on another track for editing, etc. It is a pretty handy app to have hanging around for 50 or 60 bucks.

    Cheers,
