A lot of people like the action sequences. Especially appeals to a younger audience 16-25 because of the way the special effects were done in a video game like format. I really enjoyed it but wouldnt put it in the catagory of a BarveHeart of even a Troy because the lack of dialogue and story made you care very little about the characters themselves, so I wasnt all into the movie. It wasnt great but it was entertaining.
Now, about the accent. I am pretty sure Spartans spoke some sort of Greek. If the characters didnt speak in Greek, why should they use British English? Does B.E make it that much more authentic than American English? I get it if all casts are English actors, but there are some Americans. The graphics are horrible in my opinion. It makes you feel you are watching a musical performed on stage. In a lot of scenes, the foreground and backgound dont blend at all. I have pretty low standards watching movie, but this one just annoyed hell out of me.
Offtopic 300 question: Anyone else laugh at the fact that every single male is just jacked. (Huge pecs, six pack) Wonder if that was done on computer.
That and all those weird creatures of the Persian empire. And Xerxes, the 7 foot tall gay looking Persian King? Where did that come from.
Yeah that bugs me too. Like that horrible movie about the Russian sub a couple years ago with Harrison Ford. He spoke English with a Russian accent. Freaking terrible.
Snatch. is a movie that when I first saw it was OK. Then, after seeing it a few more times, it became one of my favorite comedies... Everyone played their role great IMO.
I visited the Niagara Fall couple weeks ago, that is a hot but not a good weather..... And I was so disappointed. Not as scenic as what I imagined before.
I was the exact opposite with Snatch. Loved it the first time and it gets worse and worse to me everytime I watch it.
It was ok Action was good. but not enough of it the plot . . .well simplistic about half way through it I was thinking ok . .they have a code. . . honor etc. . . now Fight some more Xerxes seemed like he wanted to get him some Leonitus and i don't mean in battle It thought it was average at best. . not as great as i was lead to beleive. Rocket River
How did you not like 300, it was GREAT, one of the best movies, if not the Best movie i've seen this year.
Knocked Up. A lot of the critics praised it and some even claimed it to be a heart warming story. I found it to be crass, unrealistic, not that funny (I found the constant one liner banter tiresome), and parts of it visually disturbing. I didn't quite understand the charm some people saw in it...and this is coming from a guy who enjoyed Spaceballs, 40 Year-old Virgin (same director ironically), and Kingpin.
300 was a fantasy film, and the people that hated it 'cause they thought it was going to be totally fact based should go watch the history channel version with D level actors and plastic swords.
A graphic novel. That's what the movie is based on. I don't know how many times I've read it (several dozen, at least), but people seem to forget that. Taking that into account, I thought it was amazing. I'm a history fanatic. Just love reading history, reading historical novels, seeing period films based on actual events in history. Didn't have any problem setting that aside. Besides, the king's wife was hot!
I thought 300 was great for the movie screen. I expected a visual treat and I got it. I personally liked the style, kind of juxtaposed against a 'painting' like background. I haven't watched it on tv yet so I don't know if I'll enjoy it as much. But for the big screen it worked for me.
I saw it on HD DVD and nearly semened myself on a couple of parts. 300 is like a prostitute. You pay for what you want. pointless action. I didn't go in expecting a historical, society changing film. Maybe that's why I liked it. It was pure eye and ear candy.
