Whenever you have bought or thought of buying a new car, how long do you realistically expect that car to keep running for you before you have to buy a new one or before you get tired of it want to buy a new one?

i'd look for a new car after ten years, but i'd expect the current one to run good for at least 15.

For me, at least 4 years. I hope to keep my current car 10 years, but I don't know if I will just get tired of it or if it will be too impractical.

I'm more worried about mileage than years. I don't seriously start thinking about a new car until it hits around 120,000 miles or so. After that, it's a crapshoot when I'll get a new one. I've been lucky to have gotten pretty damn reliable cars so far.

    Depends...

For me: 10 years. I drive them until I see significant repairs in the future.

For my wife: 4 years or as soon as the loan is paid off - and that stretching it. I've seen her say she wants a new car after the 2nd month - and I get her nice, new cars. Happy wife, happy life.

For my soon to 16 year old son: 1-2 years. I keep telling him to get something that is safe and has air, but don't spend all his car savings on his first car. If he wrecks it, he has more money for another car to get him to and from work. After a year or 2 and with a few driving years under his belt, if he hasn't wrecked it, he can sell it for about what he paid and upgrade. Plus everyone needs an old beater story to tell their kids.

Depends how many miles you drive it for year and how much the maintenance costs (increase per those years) if any.

At least 10 years. My old car is 10 years old now but I plan to keep it at least 5-10 more years. It is still in perfect condition, it is a 97 Camry.

    Forever

Or at least until the interior starts to break down and decompose. Then it uglies its way into getting replaced.

Depends! I had a Lexus that i put 150K miles on and it never gave me problems and this was over 8 years.

That car was a dream. I currently have had a Range Rover and I have to extended warranty till 90k miles (currently have 50K), but i want to get rid of it before it goes out of warranty.

Depends on the reliability and cost to repair. Many times the danger, hassle and cost of owning an older car make it worse than a car payment.

On a new car, at least 10 years. My 92 Mustang was just sold for $7500. Mind you , that car had been modified extensively, but still ran with a/c, power everything, and no rust...

I'm both happy and sad that my 5.5 year old Lexus has less than 32k miles on it.

At this rate, I may get another car sometime in my lifetime...but its not a given!

my car is 6 years old. it only has 52K miles on it. i can't justify in my mind spending money on a new car when this one is paid and only has 52K miles.

My car is 14 years old, A/C still blows cold. I'll keep it until it costs too much to repair.

It's got a lot of annoying things, like a sticking door and it's noisy, but it's paid for.
