You can not compare this team to last years team. The talent is totally different. If the Celtics win 50 games is it because Doc Rivers suddenly became a better coach this year vs. last year, or Paul Pierce suddenly became a leader. It will be because his team added two all star players and their talent level went way up. Hate JVG or not, this season will not reflect on him. Without question, the Rox are much more talented this year vs. last year (Scola, Brooks, Francis, James added). I doubt you will think that if we lose in the first round this year that means JVG was really a great coach cuz he took a less talented team to the same level.
The question is would the Scola trade and Francis signing have happened with JVG as the coach. The front office (Lindsey) plainly stated that they look for fit with the coach before making any acquistion. Surely Morey (or any GM) is not that much different in that regard. Would the Battier trade have been made with Adelman here?
JVG has a lot to do w/ this. if JVG was still here, i don't believe the francis deal would be done. and also, how would we know if scola would get any playing time at all? he never played vspan for crap. and scola, if he did play, would be on a short leash
exactly, the answer is no and NO to bonzi coming back. If JVG were this years coach, Rockets=SOS, same old sh*t.
That's what some here won't acknowledge. CD's tenure here was all about giving the coach what he wanted (Swift acquisition, and V-Span signing I still believe was a Les override). But Adelman can use players JVG had no use for and vice-versa. It's an argument about philosophy as much as results. There are still so many here that think JVG didn't heavily influence personnel decisions, but my concern is the direction of the team, and even if we had beaten Utah last year and GS, I still didn't think the style of basketball we played was going to get us to the NBA Finals. I don't understand why it's heresy to say that here. I guess it's easier to trash Yao, T-Mac and CD than to think JVG had anything to do with it. This is a ridiculous thread, but as always people tend to react to minutae posted by others reacting to others. It's going to be a long, rough ride here 'til May.
This thread will prove one of two things... 1) People who are out of crack, out of money to buy crack, and out of stuff to sell to buy crack will come and see what they can post on the BBS because it gives them the same feeling. 2) JVG haters and T-Mac doubters never die, they just keep posting. Some people have something to say... Others have to say something
Are you saying if JVG wasnt here that Tmac would have never been brought in. What about adding Deke? He was huge for us last year and was brought in under the JVG regime. Even the Battier trade at this point can not be ruled a failure. Gay has done nothing to prove he will be a superstar in this league and Battier played a big role on a 52 win team last year. As for the Scola trade, I dont see how that would not have happened solely based on JVG still being here. You think he would have been rooting for the Rox to keep Vspan. Even JVG said the Rox need to upgrade at the 4 spot last year. JVG is gone. I am fine with that. I just dont see why so many people blame him for all that went bad here, but ignore that he might have had any role in anything that went good.
Vspan was terrible. He sucked in games when he played, and I am assuming he wasnt tearing it up in practice either. How can you still think Vspan should have gotten more time after how things worked out this offseason.
Got to agree with you. I think it is similar to the situation with the cowboys. Bill Parcells was brought in to right the ship. He did a great job at that, but I don't think he was the right guy to take the next step. He wasn't killing them; he made them a lot better, but it was time for him to go. Same thing with JVG. He was brought in to right the ship and he did that. He did a lot of great things for the rox. He probably wasn't the guy to help them take the next step. Maybe Adelman will be. A lot of times coaches go in cycles. A rigid diciplinarian will come in and set a strong foundation and then more a "player's coach" will come in and help a team take the next step. After a while things get so out of order that the team turns to another disciplinarian who can get things right. Occasionally you get a guy who can walk between the two and have success for a long time.
im saying, we will be able to see if JVGs philosophy and stubborness were truly holding us back, or was it more T-mac not stepping up and getting it done when it mattered most. if it funny as soon as JVG is out the door, we have our best offseason in years... why are people bashing my thread so much ?
