To hit homeruns you need a combination of power, patience and timing like nothing else in American sports. And baseball's legacy is based around records, that would be my guess.
This guy says 650 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_y...cB?slug=dw-756bonds080707&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
I am happy for him, but I can't believe he didn't embrace his son as he crossed home plate. He barely acknowledged him.......I wish he would have picked up his son in a bear hug.....ala Mark McGwire..... I guess that is not his style. DD
Like Barry says, I can't understand why someone would hate another person despite not even knowing them. Alot of people seem to take this so seriously. Even as a baseball fan, its not a life or death matter, its just a game, and he just broke a record. If people put their energy into worrying and complaining about bigger things, more things would be accomplished by all.
Ditto. Glad it's "over" so-to-speak... I agree with the 650 range for "if he's been taking (with 756) vs. if not" theory... I'd say anywhere from 650 to 695-ish. I honestly do not think you can hit 400 to 500 or more without even the accusations and then not be able to do it without drugs anymore, that is, if he was ever on them and stopped. We all know he's been strictly monitored since all the controversy began.. and he's still a hitting machine. The man deserves no asterisk IMHO... every Rockets fan should be ashamed for even suggesting as much, or even laughing at it. Even if it turns out he did use, or abuse, steroids - he is from that era. If he gets an asterisk, so does Ruth for being an alcoholic... so should Strawberry for his coke abuse.... Anyway, I was happy for Barry when I saw it. Great moment in history.
Bloody hell, people congratulating him as such. I don't care if I'm on Jeopardy and somehow am asked to answer a question on who the current baseball home run king is...my answer will be Hank Aaron at 755 home runs. Many people are correct in saying he is from the steroid era, yet, I've yet to see actual accusations of the majority of the players from the age except for several players. People say the pitchers were juiced...I've yet to see even a shard of evidence. Barry Bonds did use the clear and the cream, but claims he thought they were other things. He was connected to BALCO, Game of Shadows is an excellent book that reveals all and if we could somehow torture Anderson into confessing everything he knows. I was hoping a high-powered sniper rifle was the preferred sound before 755 as the bullet lodged itself in Barry Bonds head. I don't think I can ever look at baseball the same way. More importantly, I feel for any sons I will have in the future. The game has been taken away from them. The most beautiful records owned by a creature of steroids and engineering. But Hank Aaron, bless his heart, will always be the Home Run King. Same with Roger Maris.
^ So, let me get this straight... You prefer an assassination to a game's broken record? I feel more sorry for your sons because you do not value a man's life and right to it as much as a simple number on paper. No one stole Baseball. But someone has obviously lost the meaning of sanctity of life. I think you may be the one on roids... you definitely have the rage.
Fine, a bullet in his head may be too much. Perhaps one to the kneecap. The number is not just on paper. It means sometimes. Barry Bonds destroyed the record, destroyed the sanctity of the sport. The sport means more than just numbers. But Barry Bonds... *is still seething in anger*
if he used roids, he's just a conceited liar and scum of the earth if he didn't use roids, he's the best ever black and white, Barry...there's no in between in the sports world..maybe he'll tell the truth on his death bed..and then if he says he didn't do it we might believe him.
Barry Bonds is a conundrum to me. He claims that he's totally behind any other big league player and will support any of them all the way, but he turns his back on them by cheating and doing steroids. Assuming that he does as it has never been proven he does, this seems to be backwards as he is effectively turning his back on other players by cheating to be better. I don't know, those were just my thoughts watching the press conference. I've been thinking about him breaking the record for a while now as anything sports related has been mentioning Bonds for weeks now, and I decided not to be annoyed with Barry, personally. He is obviously a prolific hitter, one of the best to ever play the game. He was an excellent player before he started hitting for the huge season HR numbers six or seven years ago. While I still think there are a good handful of players that were better than Barry in the past, including Ruth and Aaron, I think I'm going to do my best to enjoy watching Bonds finish his career, watching to see what the new final tally is for the most individual home runs in history.
Look, I know Barry sucks, but, really, showing some emotion when you broke the most hallowed record in sports is not some horrible thing.
even though i personally feel he cheated, i cant blame the guy for raising his hands when he knew it was gone. had to have felt great with all the pressure he has been under, prob felt like a boulder was lifted off him, i wont hate on him for that.
