I'm glad. This BBS overrated the guy (Pietrus too). Kirk Snyder would have been getting 11, 5, and a couple of steals if he played for the Warriors last year. I still like Barnes, but he isn't worth more than 3.5mil.

Barnes is much more skilled and smarter than Snyder. He can also hit the three at a pretty good clip. Snyder and Pietrus are somewhat similar but neither have the bball IQ or versatility that Barnes can bring to the table for that team. Pietrus has a nice outside jumper too which sets him apart from Kirk.

I wasn't trying to compare the two. Simply saying Barnes stats were bloated in that system as Snyder's would be. Snyder fits the GSW mold. I agree Barnes is a solid player, not full MLE good though.

I agree, except that Pietrus is even more athletic than both and has the highest upside. He is newer to the game and regarded as having a good work ethic.

I think both Barnes and Pietrus would have helped a lot of teams. The Heat really should have made a move.

And someone should have stole Barnes away if all it took was a 1 year 4 mil deal or two year 7 mil deal with a player option. His agent should be fired for not getting him a contract in range of Kapano, Carrol, Mason and Walton--I think both Barnes and Pietrus are more well rounded players than those guys (except maybe Walton, but he is much less athletic than the other two).

The knock on Barnes was whether he was a one year wonder? The guy had been in the league for a long time, bouncing around a lot. If he was that good, he would stick around in team at least.

I think teams regretted letting Mario Elie, Bruce Bowen, and other "late bloomers" go as well or not looking down lower contracts early. Like I said I think he is a better player than the guys I mentioned above, particularly for a team needing an athletic and well rounded role player (Heat in particular). We will see of course, but I think Barnes will stick around a solid rotation player and teams missed a chance this year at a great value he probably would have taken (e.g., 4 years 15 mil).

Surprised, I am impressed at the owners' discretion. I thought for sure he would get a max deal from Billy King ;)

ok guys its just business. If i was Barnes i would too try to get some big paycheck n so would everyone else here. NBA is just business n players play for money. Barnes can try to get max money if he wants even if he sucks, just like anyone else would, because we all love money!!!
