Seeing that the Clippers are in dire straits (I want my MTV), and that Sam vowed to be the 'KING OF LA' next season, would he be a MVP candidate if they made the playoffs?

If Sam does this, is this the most spectacular achievement since Moses parted the Red Sea?

They won't make the playoffs. They won't even come close.

The best he'll do is 7th... behind Yao, TMac, Francis, James, Battier and Scola.

Even then, he might only tie with Chuck Hayes.

I've gotta admit, Tinman's threads are an interesting twist on the offseason.

And, no, there's no way dude wins MVP if the Clippers make the playoffs (which they won't, anyways). I love Sam as much as anybody (except Tinman), but the Clippers would have to be favorites for the title for Sam to garner any consideration at all, which is a ridiculous notion at that.

Actually, in that scenario, I think the NBA would give the MVP award directly to Pete Chilcutt. Y'know, as a mea culpa for never recognizing his role in the greatest championship(s) the universe will ever experience, past, present, or future.

BTW, on your home planet, does it rain old school Rockets logos?

    you got that wrong.
The old school Rocket logo REIGNS!!!

You guys never know what will happen in the next season. my prediction is that Corey Magette will finally get traded and that trade will help them get back to the playoffs. Plus Al Thorton could be a sleeper. Brevin Knight is a good backup PG too. Brand is coming back at some point of the season.

Even if they did AND they were favorites, I think the award would end up going to Corey Maggette.

Where is the "hell no" option? Cassell needs to concentrate on playing at least 50 games this year.

strange things happen in the NBA.
remember that a #8 seed Golden State beat the Mavs?

imagine if some Nostradomus-Clutchfan predicted that? he'd get a 1 star plus booed off like a guy who cant sing on showtime at the apollo!

No, If Cassell is healthy he will definitely be the leader of the team and see the majority of the ballhandling/mid-range-jumpshooting-duties.

They wont even come close to the playoffs IMO, if they have any success, then Thornton will have to pop some serious trunk this season. I'm high on Thornton, but he isn't enough

I would argue, respectfully, that the Clips do not necessarily need to make the playoffs for Sam to be MVP.

Let's say Sammy stays healthy for all 82. You figure that, minimum, he will hit 18 game winners. At some point, the odds are good that he will point to the sky and invoke the spirit of Vernon Maxwell by standing at the top left portion of the three point arc, nailing a three to seal a game versus the knicks, turning around, and leaping / fistpumping with a gaggle of teammates swarming him down. Then, he will invoke himself by draining a three in another game against the Knicks to kill their spirit AGAIN.

I say he gets MVP for that. Is he the last remaining player from the Rockets 94/95 to be playing now? Is Horry still a Spur?

    I love those guys.

Vernon needs to make a comeback. You know he could lock down Kobe tomorrow. Emotionally and physically.

If Sam plays most games and isn't in a wheelchair by the time the season ends, then let's talk about it.

But the Clips better keep that wheelchair handy. I have a feeling Sam is going to need it.

    Seriously ...

For normal people you call it nostalgia.

In tinman's case, it is best described as "manic obsession".
