Anybody know of a good compilation CD of Dance/Trance music for someone who doesn't know a lot about either. Someone recommended Ministry of Sound to me but I was wondering if anyone here knew anything.

Try Ultra. Do a search on Itunes for Ultra or "ibiza"

not to shi!t on ^ parade but that is possibly the worst suggestion ever.

Try going with some name brands then filter out what u don't like.

    Sasha and digweed...pretty mellow.

    Crystal method...upbeat grooving type stuff.

I am a big fan of oakenfold because his range his huge...but that's my favorite.

BT has some awesome collaborations...his songs with vocals are fantastic.

Check out some delirium, especially silence.

Other notables ur better sampling their music.

    Junkie XL
    Sander
    ATB
    Motorcyle (as the rush comes)
    Iio
Some good stuff. Wait until i sober up and bust out the ipod.

    Armin van Buren
    Sash
    Darude
DJ Tiesto - He's the man.
Scooter - He's also the man.

There's more, but those are who I listen to.

Would Morcheeba or Massive Attack be appropriate?

No, they are Trip Hop. Completely different from what he is looking for. I love trip hop....trance...not so much. ;)

But one duo that does fall under that category that I think is amazing is Gabriel and Dresden. Their remixes and original tracks are top notch. They are also part of Motorcycle, which pradaxpimp mentioned. I'd recommend checking out the self titled Gabriel and Dresden album that was released in 2006, as well as download some of their Essential Mixes.

DJ Tiesto (I prefer the "MAGIK" series) is tops in my opinion. I haven't found anybody else in the genre with a body of work as appealing. I would also be interested if anyone could suggest good alternatives.

Also try taking all these people's recommendations to Pandora. That might lead you to narrow down what you like and don't. I listen strictly to drum & bass and deep house, so have no idea what's going on here.

    That's Trip Hop.

Go to South Beach in the Montrose area and just ask the DJ what the playlist is going to be like.

BTW only gay men and tran divas listen to trance. I suggest you pick up electro.

Prada man - go back to sucking ****.

Your music selection is horrible in my opinion. It's pretty hard to search for this stuff online as most of it is vinyl in actuality. I was giving a broad example because I didn't know what he liked. Ministry of Sound isn't a bad compilation actually as is Ultra.

Crystal Method / Chemical Brothers / Prodigy = more electronic groups.

Motorcyle? Motorcyle is a song with female lyrics. I dont classify that as trance.

    Here are some other suggestions.

    DJ Icey (breakbeats)
    Sasha
    Jon Digweed
DJ Tiesto (can't really go wrong here)
Paul Oakenfold (one of the first)
    Sander Kleinenberg
    Satoshi Tomiee
    Yo****oshi

If you want to check out some familiar tunes, try these

Fedde Le Grand - Put your hands up for detroit
DJ Tiesto - Dance 4 Life
    Paul Van Dyke - Crush
David Guetta - Love don't let me go
DJ Tiesto (In My Memory album)

Wax my floors. If you have time, I'll let you shine my shoes. After that you can bring me some Chinese food on your spare time. After a while, you'll accumulate enough money to buy the Delirium Single on EP but not the foreign edition.

My alltime fave, along with ATB.

WMJ, check out this album. Paul Oakenfold Presents Another World. The whole album is sw00t. The mix of Led Zep's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and Amoebaassassin's "Piledriver" absolutely kick ass.

ur a f'n idiot. u just named some of the most obvious crap. Its paul van dyk not dyke u dipsh!t. As the rush comes is as much trance any other song. Just because there are vocals doesn't mean it isn't trance.

David guetta? wow...can u get ne more mainstream gay than that crap.

Ultra is the worst compilation....prepared by some crap ass guido dj. Try Markus Schulz.
    a state of trance
    in search of sunrise
    Magik....those are some great mixes.

Paul oakenfold's creamfield is another awesome set.

Sirius Radio - The Beat, Boombox, and Area 33.

They play all types of trance, dance, electronic, etc.

I think on XM, BPM is the channel for dance/trance.
