I don't think players who came out of the NCAA should be considered imports, but well... maybe they should.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Nash Steve Nash was born in Johannesburg, South Africa to a Welsh mother and English father on February 7, 1974. After his parents realized the negative effects the apartheid system may have on their children, the family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, when Nash was 18 months old. After a brief period, the family moved to Vancouver before finally settling in Victoria, British Columbia. Growing up in Victoria, Nash and his younger brother Martin excelled in soccer and ice hockey. Nash did not start playing basketball until he was 13, when a friend drew him into playing it. Throughout his childhood, Nash had a keen determination in improving his athletic skills, as he was found practicing often. In the eight grade, he told his mother that one day he would play in the NBA and become a star. His parents, who are former athletes themselves, were always supportive of their children, and produced superior athletes out of them. Nash's brother Martin currently plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps and has made 30 appearances for the Canadian national soccer team.[2] His sister Joann was the captain of the University of Victoria women's soccer team for three years and was named one of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association All-Stars. Due to the limited attention afforded to the Canadian high school basketball circuit, Nash went completely unrecruited by the U.S. NCAA schools. His high school coach, Ian Hyde-Lay, sent letters of inquiry and highlight reels on Nash's behalf to over 30 American universities, to no avail. Acting on a tip, Santa Clara University head coach Dick Davey was intrigued enough, however, to twice request video footage of the young guard before finally making the trip up from northern California to visit the recruit in person. After watching Nash dominate a game, Davey recalled later, "I was nervous as hell just hoping that no one else would see him. It didn't take a Nobel Prize winner to figure out this guy's pretty good. It was just a case of hoping that none of the big names came around."
Lol, Tim Duncan played for Team USA, I don't see how that makes him a foreign import. But I'll cut Rosen some slack, at least he remembered Yao this time I'm satisfied, after all, Ginobili did play in the Finals, unlike the Rockets.
I am also a great fan of Hakkem and I am wondering how you know that he was an etraordinary Human Being?
The old Rosen rating formula - 60% WINNING/Defending/Clutchness - 40% Talent/Numbers - and every player has a flaw he's gotta sound off on. At least its consistent here and makes a bit of sense. To me 'foreign' would be if you need a passport to get in and it doesnt use the U.S. dollar. That would cancel out St. Croix/St Thomas, Puerto Rico and Guam. But foreign means "not born in the 50 states" or in North America to a lot of people so its passable here His list of the All-Time imports is FAR MORE ridiculous than the current players' list. Detlef Shrempf and Toni Kukoc are NOT better than Patrick Ewing, no matter what they've accomplished. Mutombo isnt better than Ewing either. And if its going off his criteria of who's an international import he left off the biggest one of all: Shaquille O'Neal born in Germany
too add... Nash is Canadian...thats for sure( he plays for team Canada)... in any event....Canada allows dual citizenship anyways... Nash should get the nod... considering the talent level... in the province of B.C Canada... at the time... my school was the provincial champs the two years I was there....and I could... school... the best guards on that team... with that....I figure... my talent level would have been at par with an above average 15 year old American player at the time... watching Nash play at 18 years of age 3 years later.. for the Provincial Championship... I got no indiction... that he was any better than the last years, star player, or the player next for next year... or even when he was at Santa Clara playing college ball ( he just brought out a new level of ply I never seen before) ... even with the vast improvement... I was suprised he was drafted into the NBA... and even more now at the incredable talent he has become...
Once again the idiot shows why he is - well - an idiot. Manu ahead of Yao? Dumb! Dirk not on the list? Dumb! Parker not on the list? Dumb! Rosen? Dumb!
I love Yao, but actually I would rank both Parker and Dirk above him right now . Park is final MVP, Dirk is also regular season MVP...
Nique was about as French as Macdonald's french fries. Nique and his brother Gerald are American as apple pie. His dad was stationed in Paris with the US army, thus the his POB is listed as France.
1 Nash 2 Dirk 3 Yao 4 Parker 5 Manu Timmy is all American, there;s a reason that it is called U.S. Virgin Islands
hakeem is a top 5-7 player of ALL TIME, not his position, not his era. he's a once in a lifetime kind of player. he's so good, he's in the stratosphere so rosen doesn't even list him. it's beyond his old age.
He didn't say best foreign player, he said best international player. If you go by international then yes Duncan is international. Duncan actually can play for or against the US team.
