I was thinking about this while playing the association in 2k7. I find this interesting because 111 are obviously options 1 & 2, and locks to be the teams leading scorers. However, after them we have no definitive third option. I feel like the difference between scorers 3-5 won't be that big of a difference and we are going to have a "third scoring option by committee". But still, what do you guys think? Rafer because he was 3rd leading scorer last year? A rejuvenated Bonzi? One of our new PG's? Scola as he is one of our only bigs and slated to play alot of minutes? Battier because he'll most likely start? Discuss.
well, if coach A put Bonzi as the 6th man to agaist those weaker bench players from other teams, ill go for bonzi, that is if he can lift himself off the ground after some hard trainings.
A rejuvinated Steve Francis has the potential to be a consistent 3rd scorer on this team. IMO he will and average around 13ppg in around 25-30 mins playing at both the 1 and 2 positions. I think, unless rafer is traded, Mike James will become lost in the rotation, because a PG rotation of Alston and Francis is much more balanced then a rotation of Francis and James.
I think it's between, scola, francis and Wells. anyone of those guys can be a very good 3rd option. i gotta feeling Scola might struggle at the start of the season. he'll need a adjustment period. so it'll be between Boni and francis.
I really believe bonzi can and will become out 3rd scorer...i think he has alot to prove on the court this year... if not then prolly Francis
I agree it will be one of those three. I personally think Scola will be the real surprise of the season and that after a very short time to adjust to NBA, will really find his niche and blend in real well as our third scoring option. He is excatly what we have needed at PF all along. I cant wait for the season to get started. It's gonna be fun!
If SF is healthy the entire season and doesn't have chemistry issues with Adelman and other players, he will be #3 in scoring. I can guarantee you it won't be Battier or Scola. Neither one of those guys will average double figures. As for Bonzi, his career average is less than 13 per game and he won't get that as a thirtysomething coming off the bench on this team. MJ would be my 2nd choice. Whoever plays PG will have a lot of scoring opportunities.
if it's not Bonzi then I don't see us as true contenders....the guy is way too talented and a too much of a matchup nightmare for him not to be the 3rd option....I don't see Francis being it mainly because we don't want him handling the ball that much
I expect it to be Francis, though I agree with blazer_ben in that it will be between Steve, Luis, and Bonzi. Morey was commenting on how, when given minutes, Steve was still playing excellently last year which leads me to believe he will be given considerable minutes to get the best out of him (which is still quite good). Someone posted an old quote from Stevie which said that if he could play for any coach in the league, he would like to play for Adelman. Coincidentally, his best All-Star game (20 pts, 9/12 fg, 9 assists) was with Adelman at the helm. I think they'll be a good fit. Similarly, we've already seen Adelman get the best out of Bonzi, and if he comes ready to play than we have a great mismatch to exploit almost every night. Adelman seems to love Scola too, whose minutes will obviously be high on our team. I think its safe to say we won't have any more 4 player scoring playoff games
I'll change it on ya'll. The top three scorers in the team are Yao, Francis, and McGrady; and not in any order. Between ya'll and me, if someone can get the basketball to Francis, he will get you 20 points easily. But, I do think that Francis is Honest with his intention of fitting in and not trying to reclaim his throne as Franchise of the Rockets. But, with confidence Francis will affect the game plenty. With Scoring, Rebounding, and Assists. I'm most concerned about chemistry. Last year Well would have affected the chemistry negitively. Therefore a short rotation provided solid fundamental chemistry. And I'm starting to think that Alston might not get traded. Think about the different type of lineups. Alston Francis McGrady Scola Yao Key Reserves: Battier Wells James Hayes or Francis McGrady Battier Scola Yao Butler Key Reserves: James Alston Wells Hayes Butler I like the options!!!
I think Tmac will control who gets the ball. Francis will get LOTS of chances to score with Tmac getting him the ball, and similarly, lots of chances with Yao dropping off to him. Shoot Rafer had LOTS of chances point-blank last year, except he went in with that ridiculous tear-drop floater that invariably clanked. Francis can still finish a layup or a short pop jumper with a Yao-sized screen, if not the flying dunk of yesteryear. He can also get to the line. Easy shots + freethrows should = good scoring avg.
Steve Francis or Mike James. Those are the 2 guys that will likely be our 3rd scorer. Francis and James can penetrate to the hole, create their own shots and knock down 3's. The other guys on the list like Battier aren't consider a scorer in any given night. Same with scola, since he is an inside player, Yao will be the focal point when the ball is dumped into the low post. Hence, he will not get too much touches inside.
Im thinking that in an Adelman system, the point guard is afforded alot of shots, next to other key players (Ming and McGrady). So either Mike James or Steve Franchise will be the third option, cloesly followed by Battier, Bonzi, Head
bonzi. he's the best player on our roster after yao and t-mac and should get good playing time as the 6th man.
I chose Steve Francis, and I expect him to score 16 PPG. At first I thought that might be too high, but then I remembered Rafer Alston scored 13 PPG in a JVG offense, so I think Francis can do 16 PPG for us as our third scorer.
I think it'll be between Steve and Bonzi. And if I had to pick, I'd say Bonzi. But it'll be close, something like 14.5 ppg to 14.2 ppg.
