Let's suppose that the Rockets play very well next season, and McGrady and Yao both play close to a full season. Who do you predict will get more MVP votes? I think opinion might end up being split between them if all goes well, thus eliminating either of their chances of actually winning the whole thing. But between them, I'll guess Yao.
Since I cannot start a thread I wanted to see what your reactions would be? Paul (Jacksonville, FL): Are the Rockets now legitimate threats to win the West (and by proxy the NBA Finals)? After adding a legit PF in Scola and a couple quality players in Francis and James to split backcourt time with Alston, where exactly is their weakness? Aren't they primed for a title run? Ric Bucher: (3:31 PM ET ) I don't see a team led by Tracy McGrady winning a title. Ever.
It has some relevance to this thread as well. I think we can pretty much count on T-Mac not getting an MVP vote from Rich Bucher next year.
True but if you guys were true ROCKET fans you would just vote for the guy whos behind, right now its 15-15 and thats the way it should be.
t-mac was deservedly very high on mvp votes last year but if yao was healthy the entire year and playing at the level he was, he very well could have won it. i don't know what adelman has in store for us and i'm very worried about yao's shoulder so this a hard vote.
That's good thread. I know that most of you guys are Yao's fan but I would really go with Tracy McGrady and not because he's my favourite player. I'm tryin' to be objective. And why Tracy? Of course you can said that he didn't have the best of his seasons last year cause 24,6 PPG ain't enough. But when you look at the whole statistics (not only points) it was really good season. We all know T-Mac had to be a playmaker. JVG played defense and on ofense he let Tracy play like he wanted. He was a playmaker, scorer, shooter, etc., cause fuc*in' Rafer was a "shooter". But in real, T-Mac isn't that type of player. He loves to score points not to pass the ball. But I'll come back to the subject. DO you remember his game when Yao was out? Do you remember how many games did we win with Yao out for 32 games? And that's why mine MVP is T-Mac. I think Yao wouldn't be so good (as he is now) if he didn't have Tracy cause T-Mac makes the game a lot easier for him. That is just my opinion
This will be the first season where Yao usurps Tracy as team leader, and he will get more MVP votes than Tmac. Reasoning is simple: Adelman. No, I am not a YOF, just a dude with a prediction. Book it!
I vote Yaoza. But highly doubt he wins it. Media is far more enamored with Tmac compared to Yao. Yao will get a vote from Bucher, Hollinger, and maybe Wilbon if he plays at a high level all year. Doubt he gets votes from anyone else. Dirk, Nash, or Lebron will probrably lead in MVP voting, like they do every year. People love them. Even though Kobe probably be higher up than Dirk and Bron. Just NBA politics. My 2 Cents.
I voted Tracy because it seems like play will run more through him in Adelman's offense than through Yao, so Tracy will be more essential and effective on the court. I agree it'll be a tough call though.
You know the media loves valuable big men, especially they put up gaudy numbers...if Yao was healthy last season and played at least 70 - 75 games, he might ran away with MVP...his number slightly better than Nowitzki's.
Do you know the one word that best describes the assumption that Yao could play at his pre-injury level for the whole season? It's 'idiotic'.
Tracy makes 19 millions this year, 19 mils, that's as much as Parker and Manu combined, or Yao and Shane combined. You take out Yao and Shane both, then ask Tracy to lead this team, and compare the result to what Yao had done when Tracy was out, that's fair.
